SAT's

whatd you guys get on sat's ?
i just got my score of 1130 :/

Posted by Roquer on May-17-2003 22:54:

1400. Many years ago...

Posted by whitesmoke on May-17-2003 23:08:

1410.

stupid test by the way - it should not be used. sat score is something like the 4th best predictor of how well you will do in college but some colleges/universities use it like it is gold.

1430

Posted by Haunted on May-18-2003 15:07:

guys have any tips for scoring higher?
i took a tutor and i did better on practice tests and everything
im pretty good at pacing myself on english but on the math im always rushing the last few

Posted by Eugene on May-18-2003 15:17:

1420.

But I agree, it's a stupid test. My first score was something like 1200, so you'll get better if you take it more.

look for a princeton review course and/or book. they promise that your score will go up. they teach you how to take the test, which is much more important than what is on the test and if you know it.

1460 or 1480, something like that. Don't remember quite well though, I took that shit 4 years ago. I'm glad I did well, I bet that was one of the main factors that got me into a great school.

Now I'm getting ready for the LSATs

Posted by noikeee on May-18-2003 17:28:

what's a sat?

Posted by whitesmoke on May-18-2003 17:38:

The SAT, a three-hour test, measures verbal and mathematical reasoning skills students have developed over time and skills they need to be successful academically. Many colleges and universities use the SAT as one indicator among others-class rank, high school GPA, extracurricular activities, personal essay, and teacher recommendations-of a student's readiness to do college-level work. SAT scores are compared with the scores of other applicants, and the accepted scores at an institution, and can be used as a basis for awarding merit-based financial aid.

Thanks. I'm really not that worried because the LSAT is just a reasoning, logic, reading comprehension test and you can't really study much for that.

Now for the MCAT and the GRE you actually have to apply what you've learned in college. I'm still considering whether to do grad school instead, but law school seems much more convenient in the long run.

Just shows how little it's got to do with intelligence IMO. I took the test, not knowing anything about it until 2 months before the test. Bought some prep. books and started with ridiculous scores like 520 (math). Having learned the technique and the types of questions ( the exact wording since english aint my mother tongue) I improved up to 730 but scored lousy 690 on the test day. (I wont mention the poor 550 on the verbal part, where i just could catch up all the necessary vocabulary. oops i just did ) It's just a way to earn money on the one hand (books, courses etc.) and save time on the other hand (why look at the individual achievements of each applicant when u got those beautiful numbers?). Oh well....I guess I'm just fed up having gone through this tireseome process (including TOEFL and SAT2s) and receiving one NO after another. I should have gone straight to some UNI here, wothout wasting time, money and nerves

1510... on my last try in December.. whew.

Posted by cammie on May-18-2003 21:40:

mine was 1385: 750 verbal, 635 math ( i took it 4 yrs ago but still the pain lingers) i knew i was lousy in math (still am) so i got some of those SAT review books (from the library) and practiced ALOT. that really helped, knowing how the questions were structured. i prolly could have done better but only needed a 1200 to get into the uni of my choice, LOL.

can someone scan or help me find an example scoresheet? Me and my dad have looked all over my results sheet and (i swear) the only numbers i see are 1600. i really doubt this, considering i was sick on the day of the test, but i have recieved A LOT (and i'm talking maybe 22-34) letters from colleges all around the united states. 1600? no way

Posted by TranceGiant on May-19-2003 17:09:

On those sheets you never see the scores of both tests added up. It's shown seperately
looks like this

SAT1 Reasoning Test....Score........Score Range......percentiles

Verbal................. XXX.........xyz - zyx..........xy%

13 something... i forget. it was years ago, before they started adjusting the scores. i can't remember if the new system is easier or harder though. i did much better in math.

I'm with you buddy ... 760 verbal and 670 math. I hate math ... I still count with my fingers and toes.

combine math and verbal scores

isnt it true that your final SAT score is your best math + your best verbal? out of all the scores youve taken it
thats pretty cool
why not study for Math? and get like 800 on math and like 200 on verbal just focus on math
next test focus on verbal
wont that be alot easier?

Yes technically you list your best verbal and your best math ... I wouldn't advise studying for one and not the other though. I thing your test scores are released to the university and I think something like that might catch their eye.

some schools take the best of each and some average your scores (if you take it a couple times).
