Hello all,

I've come across the terms where the crossfader "bleeds" and would also appreciate if someone could define what a crossfader curve is.

I'd like to know to see if having a (or a good one) crossfader curve suits my needs.

If you want to help me even more, read and offer me any more advice and suggestions that I might have missed.

I've played with computer mixing software for quite a while, and last December, I finally saved enuff $$$ to purchase two cdj100s. In life, things fall apart, but otherwise I would have purchased a djm300 to go with my cd decks.

For the past six months, I've been looking into the djm300 and vestax 275, but these threads and many others have got me looking at Behringer.

My perspective so far is that they fit my needs at an affordable price.

I'm looking for a 3 or even 4 channel mixer. In the future, I look to either buying two turntables and selling one cd player or buying one turntable.

1 - I have ghetto speakers anyway, so sound quality doesn't need to be perfect. My audience = myself and my computer =)
2 - Relatively speaking, they're cheap as hell, so if its not for me, I won't have lost much $$. If I wanna upgrade, I won't lost very much $$ in reselling it.

crossfader curve is how sharp the crossfader is.

on a gentle curve, you will have a smooth slope from the either side to the middle of the crossfader for the relative volumes of the channel. it's very good for smoothly blending in songs like trance and progressive style mixing.

if you have a sharp curve, this means it's not gradual, but very sudden. you move the fader in just the smallest amoun, and the other song is already at almost full volume. scratch mixers are set up like this frequently.

if you have an adjustable curve (a good thing to have) then you can change the curve. some let you pick fom a few settings, and some are contiously variable, or in other words there is a knob that you can set anywhere you want as opposed to picking from 3 presets.

crossfader bleed (a bad thing to have) is when your crossfader is all the way to one side, and the other song "bleeds" through anyway. lower end mixers like cheap gemini and numark models will do this very quickly. higher end ones should stand up to a lot of abuse before this happens.

i have the Vestax PCV275, and i have NO bleed at all, after a year of use. i've known people with the DJM300 with a lot of bleed after not very much use (although that guy abused his mixer more than i did)
