I think of techno as not very unique hard stuff while trance is somewhat sofer, deeper and more complex, placing a greater sense of emotion in the listener. er, thats what I came up with off the top of my head

how is this a hard question???
techno in general is much more percussive and harder / abrasive than trance. from my understanding most trance is within a specific BPM range also (120's-130's?) and techno varies more or is within a completely different range. IANADJ but they have a totally different 'sound' altogether, and i think as a finer point there are some notable structure differences (though i couldn't tell you exactly what)...

lol at the morpheus comment... "no one can be told what trance is"
next thing you know he's telling you to take a pill if you really want to know what trance is

I used to think techno was garbage until I listened to a Chris Liebing set ... totally gave me respect for the genre.
I might suggest if you want to slowly delve into techno, start out with something like Bryan Zentz - D-Clash .. fairly well known, not too 'abrasive'
pfffffftttttt
im the only person at my school that listens to trance, about 1/100 people on TA listen to techno
so odds are you will never meet someone that listens to techno in your life (if you live in america)
i didnt imply that techno was a bad genre i was saying that not a lot of people listen to it
popularity doesnt = quality of course
Wouldn't that apply to trance as well then?

Techno = Disco in disguise....
Trance = Mozart, Beethoven in disguise....
(Just my point of view, both are good in there own why - I just have disco
)

listen to these two tunes:
marco v - revolt and paul van dyk - another way
i hope u got my point

i cant believe what im reading!?!?!?!?!
trance more complex than techno?????
WTF is that?
trance maybe melodic but it's always the same patterns and not ( anymore ) really original. While techno is way more intelligent and complex. I really believe Trance music has reached a point where it has to stop because it's getting worse and worse. Trance productions these days suck! I know there are exceptions but, hey, does anybody feels like me??
