Transmission - Afterthoughts

ok im starting the official transmission afterthoughts thread because no-one else has yet .

In Anycase id have to start of by describing the event as being genreally dissapointing. Aside from the excellent tuneage being pumped out by the altitude Dj's, the rest of the night was so boring.

Nervous promised that the evening would be much more uplifting as opposed to the normal hard trance mash-up. Little did i know that it would be exactly the same as every other transmission, except for a couple of extra rooms.

The locals (bexta, Pee-wee etc.) played the same old sets with the same old tunes that we heard last year. Again we heard The race, the theme (sooo over this) and the drill. They are cool tunes to dance to, but they are totally overplayed and so boring. The mixing between them was pretty shocking too. I dont know how many trainwrecks i heard nervous and pee-wee do.. Id like to say that im officially over hard trance

Moving onto hennes and cold, i thought they played pretty well, it wasnt my sort of music but i could still appreciate their track selection and mixing. It was such a relief to hear something a little different, albeit hard and banging. They definitely knew how to work the crowd,so they have my respect.

Moving onto the other arenas ( had to get out of the main arena..) i was the happiest the whole night in the "funky mission" arena. It was a funky-house arena ( as you might have guessed) and i heard some pretty cool tunes, and had a pretty good time.Everyone seemed to be a lot happier and not as focussed on drugs and heavy basslines...I saw parts of Shamus and matt roberts and thought they played really well.

Into the "nu mission area", i walked in a few times and almost instantly walked out due to this room being a total sweatbox. Quite literally there was almost no ventilation besides the doorways, and the tempreture directly outside was almost 7-10 degree's cooler!. In anycase it was refreshing to walk in there musically as there were some different styles and different tracks being played (still hard). I was hanging out the whole night for Muli ( an ITM Dj who *claimed* to play uplifting trance) but when i got there i was again dissapointed . Expecting some armin/tiesto/PVD styles (stupidly) i was eager to dance to anything under 140 bpm!. What Muli ( and solis, a dj he was versing) did play however was mainly some hard stuff, with a couple of semi-uplifiting tracks, i couldnt name them off the top of my head but to say the least it wasnt what i was expecting. I walked out just before the end of his set and went home feeling a little shortchanged.

In general ( if you people are still reading :P )im totally over hard trance, and it seems to be almost entirely for the drugs, and not much else ( IMHO :P ) and am dissapointed that this event was not as promised. The only saving grace(s) throughout the night were : Stama, Diggs and morro, Liquid M, shamus and Matt roberts.

ohh and it was cool to see Webmeister and DjWay towards the end!

what did you guys think?

totally agree with everything you said helen, it would have been so insane to see Diggs n morro/stanma/liquid M from 12-4am. ahh well we can only hope and pray.

Cannot wait for altitude tho, gunna rock so hard!

That was my first transmission; It was EXACTLY as I expected.

I was meant to be helping setup and fook off, but due to a few issues, ended up staying till it opened and got free entry coz of ma work....Walking in it was great with Nothing being blasted out, that was where it was @ with the Alt guys (as prev. said) keeping it REAL as well as getting the vibe for those who loved REAL trance, and also got a lot of new people interested. Liquid M as always busted it out, with a few remixes/reworks of their tracks (Dream Machine [last track] was teh 1st time I'd heard that version I was packing it)

Anyhow after that I spent most of my night away from the room due to it being too Transmissions. To walk from the back to the front, i always abused my pass and went through the back doors, it was too much.

I've never been a fan of hard trance or transmissions, and now I've tried it, and I know i don't like it.

As I've said on a few other places, you guys were the reason why I stayed. I drove and had passes to go etc, but the company kept me there.

Nervous is doing what he always does, calls it uplifting, and bangs it out.

In regards 2 Muli I was very pissed that he bangged it out so hard.. I've mixed with Muli a few times before, have heard him out once before as well as talk to him about tracks every few days and know that is not his normal style. His plan was to play uplifting but the guy before hand played hard, and they just continued from there for what I've heard. I left after the 3rd mix it was too hard and hot in there, but the way they played it was totally TransGurner style.

When i was a teenie bopper back in the day.. i thought transmission was all about trance.. lol... boy was i wrong...

and succky hard trancer.. hmmm... don't diss it... not nice...

Make It Phunkee is a '99 anthem... ppl still play System F - Out Of The Blue... so its kinda the same...

Transmission is not trance really.. its more about a cultural celebration of electronic music... raves.. thats what makes them a little diff to peoples trance events like Crasher... IMO

I too was quite dissapointed and like you Solstice, I was expecting to WHOLE night to be uplifting AND melodic, but shit, there was hard stuff all over the place. And I was also really holding on the Nervous's word (about the uplifting theme) - guess we were wrong hehe
I actually missed the Diggs/Morro/Stanma set, but listened to it on the radio, and FARK!!! That was some crazy set!
I arrived on the dot when LIQUID M started - this was the first time I had ever seen them live and all I can say is that these guys should be FARKEN MASSIVE! OMFG! THEY ARE THE NEW NU-NRG AUSSIE STYLE!!!!! HOLY FARK I WAS so IMPRESSED BY THEM!!!!

But after that, it just went all down hill, I didnt have any motivation in me (and no chemical influence), and I actually went to sleep for about 45minutes during PeeWee/Nervous/Dawn's set.
Henes and Cold were okay, had a few gems in their set - EXHALE!!!! and C:/del *.mp3 (the only hard track I actually like)!!!!

Lighting production was wicked, good stuff indeed and the sound system was amazing - I could actually feel my shirt vibrating from the massive bass! hehe

This too was 2nd transmission, I was thought it to be something similar to the previous one (Dumonde), but it wasnt anywhere near, BOOO TO THE SUCKY HARD STUFF!!

Posted by stama on May-25-2003 14:01:

its been interesting reading everyones comments about the night!!
now i guess its my turn to have a say!

If i had to sum it up in one word, i would say: WOW!

After pre-drinking it up with Mike, Marlo, Diggs, Morro, Wade etc.. i knew the night would be awesome but it was beyond any expectations!

Playing in a room of that size is truely amazing and definately something i could get used to! The hr and a half felt like a minute and a half!!

Big ups to the liquid M guys, they were well received and definately deserve more gigs of the same calibre!

The sound/lights/lasers were awesome. Watching from the stands on the side really gave you a feel of how massive and spectacular this event really is.

Only downside was the stuff up during airscape's remix of vengaboys at the end! We had planned a massive finale to our set and i soughta stuffed it up! haha doesnt matter, we gave it a go!

cheers for all the support guys!

Stama

Mate, its all good - shouldnt let something like that ruin the night, you guys were fantastic and I'm sure everyone will agree with me here when I say that you's definitely topped the night (even though I listened to your set through the JJJ broadcast )
I am now dying in anticipation for the next Altitude in June!

Posted by Sid on May-26-2003 03:02:

definately cant wait for altitude, the one and only jace will be djing and boy does he have some great taste in music ! lots of suprises in his set forsure ! cant wait

Posted by webmeister on May-26-2003 11:34:

Spose I should post a few scattered thoughts

Umm yeah Dumonde were way better at last Transmission than Hennes & Cold, though I thought their first hour was pretty good (tapered off after that though). I'm not exactly sure why Marc Dawn was included, as playing vs Nervous and Pee Wee you couldn't even notice the difference!! None of the uplifting stuff he apparently dropped in Melbourne, just the standard banging hard trance :/

Diggs, Morro, Stama .. you guys were outstanding!! Nothing, 3rd Earth, and of course Vengaboys - Kiss (Airscape Remix)!!! How huge is that tune!?!!

But Liquid M were definitely the highlight of the night for me .. once these guys hit the international scene they really will be the next Nu-NRG! Definitely the best set I've heard from them - the whole arena was jumping

Respect to all the peeps that fronted, Helen, Wade, Sel, James, Leigh, and Solstice (sorry dude didn't catch your name!)

Looks like DJ Scot Project will be headlining next Transmission in September .. not sure whether I'll be going or not...

Posted by Chookie on May-26-2003 23:58:

It was fucked (mind you I did have a headache, but that was prob from the hard shitty music)

I liked the anthems better (Dumonde etc).

Don't think I'll bother with the next one, DJ Scot Project is fairly hard!

Good to catch up with Webby and Djway.

Liquid M were awesome!

Posted by Ghostface on May-27-2003 01:53:

Obviously I didn't go, but actually really enjoyed the broadcast. Mind you it was pretty bang bang bang for a lot of it (hi bexta).

Whats that song:

you think i'm crazy
you're probably right
but i'm gonna have fun
every fuckin night

or something like that. One of my friends plays banging trance with a touch of cheese and this would rock for them.

Posted by jizza on May-27-2003 03:58:

the tune your after ghostface, is prolly Champion Burns - Attitude.

it's nice.

Posted by lethal on May-27-2003 07:13:

Well i havent got anything new to add.....

Diggs, Morro, Stama - You guys were fuckin aight!!
Liquid M - Thats what a liveset is all about, keep it comin boys!!
Hennes & Cold - Fun but i am SO over HardTrance.....
Nervous, Peewee, Marc Dawn - see above... i couldnt even notice when Marc Dawn was in control.... not particularly happy about that either...
Everyone else - Yawn.... did i mention i am SOOOO over HardTrance??

Still even if the music wasnt tops (altitude boys not included), the lasers and lighting were phworrrr!!!

good to see a few of the ta's around, even though i was being a very rude bastard (i apologise for that webby), hope to meet a few more of you at altitude....
