Deep thought of the night

Can you love someone and still cheat on them?

Posted by Greedy on May-26-2003 05:21:

it could be possible if the person you love is sexually depriving you just to annoy you.

Posted by Turbonium on May-26-2003 06:00:

Of course it's possible. Just picture this, you love some girl very much, and you go out to some club one night without her, and are horny, and some hot chick comes onto you, and shit happens right there on the spot. You still love the girl, but cheated on her (now I'm not saying this is a right thing to do).

Posted by AnotherWay83 on May-26-2003 07:09:

i think the only reason ppl. get angry when u cheat on them is that they feel inferior to the one u have cheated on them with, not because they love you.

Posted by Slylee on May-26-2003 07:25:

i don't think you can be in love with someone and cheat on them. it would be contradicting everything your relationship with that person is supposed to stand for.

Posted by DrUg_Tit0 on May-26-2003 11:09:

You can but that tells a lot about you as a person.

Posted by bassaholix on May-26-2003 11:11:

You cannot.. in my opinion.. why because love is pure and real, its about wanting to give someone everything you have to offer.. and if you cheat... that tells them something...

I say go for it

cheating would also contradict everything you believe in, aka love and your personality, showing your lack of will-power

k, partyprincess; most of us have been saying that you can't cheat on someone and still love them.

and as for your last sentence, about divorce; too many people mistake infatuation for love. They become infatuated by someone and believe that they're in love; thus they get married then a few months later...divorce. Never marry the first girl/guy u fall for; cause the first time is hardest to tell whether it's love or infatuation.

You don't view other members of the opposite sex the same way that you used to. You don't look at a girl or guy on the street and go, wow she's hot, or damn he's so cute. You just view them all as people and not pay a lot of attention to them, kind of the way that most guys don't pay attention to other guys or visa versa. If you've been in love then you know what I'm talking about. It's not about restraining yourself from cheating if you're in love, its about never even thinking about it. So many marriages are going under these days because of misconceptions regarding the definition of love. My 2 cents...

so true

so i guess there are 3 questions that come up in this thread:
can you cheat on someone if you love them?
can you cheat on someone and still love them?
what is love?

blah

Here r ur answers

1) If you love them and yet cheat on them,,,then simply u dontl ove them enough. Theres something holding you back from giving the person u cheat on your unconditional love n commitment ...so go find someone else...the ringht kinda ppl wont pop out of trees right after u break up but but spare ur current partner the misery and go find someone around whom u never feel the need to cheat...thats really whatl ove is

2) Yes u can cheat but still love them. Personally i avoid being with partners who would continue to love me even after ive cheated on them. If they dont have enough in them ot teach me a lesson after ive cheated and decide to forget about it and move on with me, then theyre simply weak people who've given me a free leash to do whatever i want...this is the time in a rel when ill feel superior to her and might even take all kinds of liberties...so always keep me in check ,,have me guessing,,keep mel iving on the edge etc..

3) Love as told me to once is when the person u love loves u more than u think they do and he/she at the same time feels the same about you.. ...ofcourse love isnt the be all n end all..the right social status, acceptance into the other's fmaily and finances all play a role in how love shapes up a rel...

but its not everyday we fall in love with tthe first perosn we meet, so if u have that, hold on to it and cherish it....

Im reminded of a quote " success is tasted sweetest by those who never succeed"...hopefully u see how that fits in here...

agreed, exactly what i was thinking of when i posted the questions which were supposed to clarify what the thread was about.

"can't taste the sweet before you taste the bitter" << similar quote

i think when lordtrancealaut said that you don't love someone enough, he meant to say that you are mistaken that you love them. if you're willing to cheat on someone whom you think you love, then you don't love them at all if you're willing to hurt them.

but on the other hand, we always hurt the ones we love, although this a different type of "hurt" and it doesn't really apply here

The reason i bring this up is this:

I just watched "In the Mood for Love" again last night, and... well watch it, it won best international film of the year, and is beautiful and amazing. the point was one of the questions I came up with after watching it was the aforementioned one. ack, well this would have been more in depth but i dont want to ruin anything about how the film ends. Im just going to leave it as "see it". I bought it after seeing it once, and it gets better every time.

I just have something quick to say...I think that you can betray someone that you love. I love my family and questioned myself one day if I loved them so much that I was willing to die in order to save their lives. I came to the conclusion that I loved them so deeply that I would, but there have been a few times where I betrayed them. Of course, I regret it and always will. What I am trying to say is that people aren't perfect and love isn't perfect. Even though it is there, it can get demented at times. This is where mistakes come in. I think that once apon a time, love was once pure. The world is so fucked up these days that it is rare that you can find pure love in someone.

So, f you love your girl, stay with her and don't ever do that again to her...it was a mistake, and good people don't deserve to feel that kind of pain of being 'not good enough'.

There's my take on it.

you made some good points there too...

Posted by Orbax on May-27-2003 01:29:

depends on your def of love (me being drawn into discussion). I like to use a def i heard once of : wishing the best for the other person. Love is hard to define, but i think that really covers most of it. If you truly want the best for them, doesn't that limit your actions? Or does them wishing the best for you expand your options to limitless horizons. Personally, i think two people wishing the best for one another will create such a happy arrangement that it would be impossible to cheat under the conditions.

My hopeless view...

Posted by Christopher B on May-27-2003 02:34:

If your consciousness is altered/slowed to the point where you don't realize that it's not a good thing to be having sex with someone who isn't your girlfriend/bofriend, then of course it's possible. I do whatever I can to avoid those situations, because I love my gf.

Posted by Psygnosis on May-27-2003 03:00:

Now if you love the person you wouldn't be cheating now would you, if you really have true feelings for her or him (if your a girl) then you would reject any other sexual contants with the other sex other than your partner....

If you cheat on them then you only like them
