Question Need help from a 'real' 'puter programmer !

Hi guys, out of all our TA members, there must
be at least one or two 'true' 'puter genius's. I desperately
need some help with a bloody, " missing export MSVCRT.DLL ".
I'll try and give a bit more detail if anyone thinks they can help.

Posted by BigDil on May-26-2003 10:04:

Posted by dee jay mars on May-26-2003 12:00:

Get me *ucking missing export MSVCRT.DLL to work !!
Only thing is it aint *ucking missing its there !!

Poor ol' BigDil's trying to 'elp, bet he wishes he hadn't now !!

Posted by dee jay mars on May-26-2003 12:29:

Dunno A right *ucking dilemma !!!

Ok this is the problem,
I get this error message when trying to start certain progs.

" The MSVCIRT.DLL file is linked to missing export MSVCRT.DLL : ??_U@YAPAXI@Z "

So BigDil got me to
Run : regsvr32 c:\windows\system\msvcrt.dll

We then got this :

" Was loaded, but the Dll Register Server entry point was not found.
Dll Register Server may not be exported, or a corrupt version may be in memory,
consider using PView to detect and remove "

What and how do I use 'PView' ??

A big thanks to BigDil for all his help that has got us this far, cheers buddy.

i only know about visual basic really the only thing i can suggest is there soem sort of "C++ runtime framework" thingys, like theres one for .net and visual basic

Kick the computer and tell it if it doesnt start working, you'll throw it out the window or something.

Posted by DJ Sketch-E on May-26-2003 16:54:

I would say at this point to save everything you need, or want, and reformat the drive. Doesn't take too long if you know what you are doing

Posted by KilldaDJ on May-26-2003 18:04:

King

download the visual basic 6 runtimes

that might sort it, but i cant guarentee anything

Posted by JohnSmith on May-26-2003 18:10:

yer fucked. welcome to windows.

Here is the mofo to direct your complaints to.

you may be able to fix it, but you will probably need to reinstall.

Dunno The dilemma....ongoing !!

Hey guys.....

jonsimmonds....."i only know about visual basic really"

Ya still know more than me buddy!

Turbonium...."Kick the computer and tell it if it doesnt start working, you'll throw it
out the window or something."

I've thought of that, but the bloody fing aint listening.

DJ Sketch-E....."reformat the drive. Doesn't take too long"

This has to be me last resort, just imagine 2 years worth of
driver/prog'. and microsoft updates! Shit !!

KilldaDJ....."download the visual basic 6 runtimes"

Where might I find that lil bugga?

I tried overwriting the MSVCRT.DLL in windows/system, but it wouldn't let me,
another program was using it.

JohnSmith......."yer fucked. welcome to windows."

Fanks pal !

I really really don't wanna have to reformat.

Which operating system? If you want to replace a file in win98 you can start in msdos mode. XP/2K you can start with a bootdisk, and then replace the file.

Posted by dee jay mars on May-26-2003 20:13:

hangover, I'm running Windows 98 Second Edition.
To use msdos mode though, I would need a real 'idiots' guide
on how to do that matey, I've learnt quite alot in the
last 2/3 years but nuffin about the programming side, unfortunately,
hence my probs.

Posted by hangover on May-26-2003 20:32:

Let's see if I remember
Go to the start menu and choose shutdown (?)
There should be several options, choose "start in msdos mode"

Another option is to reboot your computer and in the instant it says in the top of the screen "Starting MS DOS" or "Starting MS-Windows" to press shift-f5. It's a bit tricky so one way of accomplishing this is to keep hitting shift-f5 repeatedly from the beginning.

HTH...

when you go into dos
it'll be easy to copy the file

just first in windows save the .dll file somewhere easy to find, like right on the c:\

then when you're in dos this is what you'll type (the folders might be a bit wrong, i can't remember them exactly for win98 but you'll get the idea)...
(this is assuming you put the .dll file right on c:\)

copy c:\msvcrt.dll c:\windows\system32\msvcrt.dll

if that doesn't work, try putting "c:\windows\system32\" instead of "c:\windows\system32\msvcrt.dll"

its been a while since ive worked in dos

Posted by igottaknow on May-27-2003 14:56:

There is one issue involving the MSVCRT.dll error message which can be caused when certain Microsoft programs are installed (Microsoft Works Suite 99, Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia 99 (US only), Microsoft Encarta Virtual Globe 99, Microsoft Graphics Studio Greetings 99 and maybe some others).

In such cases the file is overwritten by another file of a different version which can cause the problem. The Microsoft article Q221946 has instructions on downloading and applying the fix.

BTW, u need an IT guy not a programmer
