you get 7 because:

you are adding numbers togeather and saying the answer. then you are told to pick a number between 12 and 5. Your brain then goes 17, but it is between 12 and 5 so you answer 7.

you get carrot because:

you are adding numbers that add up to 6 consistantly and repeating 6 all of the time. how many letters are in carrot??
