new technics turntables???

$699.00????? Give me a break. $700.00 for a turntable? The new sl1210m5g.... This thing better mix the records for me for that much money. What the hell does this thing do that is that much different than the original 1200's or even the TTx's....

Posted by Blithe on May-29-2003 04:11:

First of all... Where did you find that price quote?

My hunch would be that $700 will snag you a pair of TT's... Not just a single one. And $700 USD for a new set of 1200's is a very nice price.

By the way, what fun would it be if the records mixed themselves?

Posted by Tiger777 on May-29-2003 09:35:

A technics SL1200, costs about 599$

But, the one you've seen is the new technics TT:
the Technics SL-1210 M3d

The sl1210 does cost 700$. But, you better go for the SL1200... Forget about the 1210

Nono The SL1210M5G is the new technics

And it does cost about 700 $ according to this site

Posted by pumavisor808 on May-29-2003 11:49:

Yeah this is the price for the new technics turntable... Price quoted from PSSL...

I don't care what this turntable does, it cannot be worth that much money. From reading the specs there really isn't anything great about this new table is there?? Maybe I'm missing something.

I know how much a regular 1200 costs. I already own them..

Posted by Tiger777 on May-29-2003 13:46:

I think you're right there, it's really not worth it.

I think the SL1210M5G looks a lot better. Darker black and nice blue leds, but they're crazy if they think i'll even consider spending that much money on that table

Posted by Tiger777 on May-29-2003 17:06:

true. That kind of money for an old fashion analog TT with only 8% pitch... good luck for them to get it sold!

Posted by amdmaxx on May-30-2003 00:56:

Here ya go:
+-16 pitch control adjustment. New!!
Anti skip is now up to 6....word!
Comes with Cartridge and Stylus...what?..right..on

So nothing new compared to other turntables that have these features for maaaaaaaany years now. Sure that's worth 700 $

that's true. I mean, Its an analog TT, without any special options. Okay, it's good old fashion quality, but for 700$ you have a TTX1 with a hell of alot more options

they'd have to go reverse, and have a digital out with a good A/D converter before i would buy them at that price.

i think the funniest thing about this table is the increased antiskip. pretty much every DJ i know always leaves it at 0 anyway, so how is more helpful?

Posted by deejay2002 on May-30-2003 18:05:

wow they have the bunch brighter pop up light...aka LED and that is the only cool thing about that new tt in my opinion....

Posted by Tiger777 on May-31-2003 09:27:

Conclusion: This turntable costs waaaaay to much for what it really is.

Posted by New Wave on Jun-01-2003 02:19:

Well you only pay for the looks.
And it's looking very horny
I think I'll safe up some money for my 2nd Technics (only have one) and buy a MK5G.

Posted by verminator on Jun-01-2003 12:59:

$700 is kinda cheap....
here in .no you pay like $900-1000 for 1x sl1210mk2 if its brand new from the store

I think that's a huge waiste of money. no offence.

Posted by ChavezHype on Jun-01-2003 17:02:

just buy a blue LED and blacker faceplate that you can find. 200-300 more for really just that? That seems hard to take in... if it were 100 bucks more than it would be somewhat more understandable.

Posted by bragi on Jun-03-2003 08:05:

If you have an older 1210, and like trendy cool blue leds, try

http://www.stumpymoose.com/blutechnics

You can also mod the pop-up light with 3 blue slab type LEDs and a 200ohm, 2V resistor.

Oh, and you can mod the pitch slider to get more pitch. +/- 15% has been heard of. You could probably get even more if you're willing to replace the "Pitch" pot.

The Mk5G's are pretty sweet. And if you do some research, they are roughly $150 more than the mk3's (depednign on where you buu them) like www.audiolines.com and www.planetdj.com
I have seen low as $599

Posted by ChavezHype on Jun-04-2003 02:06:

ye... I've seen some mk5g's get sold on ebay for as little as $550 - Purchase price $599. Pssl.com is making a push on these new tt's they have 2 of the versions in stock with the regualar sl-1210/1200 Mk5 selling at $550. While the 1210 is coming in 6 days.
I'm not sure about them though, they seem to have only a tonearm with supposedly no skipping and a new LED as well as higher anti-skate adjustment, better braking speeds. While the MK5G has a blue LED and pitch option up to 16% with a fancier faceplate (its too damn sexy). In comparison to the regualar mk5's which look very similat to m3d's. However I heard that the innards of the mk5's were completely revamped for the 30th anniversary (modernized) and that there is actually added torque... I don't know... This is what I got from various places from the web... 1200s.com and other sites. I can't tell you for sure, but I doubt nearly anyone can, except those who already received them imported from Japan, or live in Japan. (I'm looking at you Tranz).
Here's a link that gives some hard to understand facts about the TT... seems to be a japanese translation to english.

$700 per table, that's outrageous! What are the new features on the

1210's?
