andain - beautiful things (john vs hanne vocal mix)
Hey all,
Something new again
Because I didnt feel like finding the notes of the original melody (yeah i'm lazy) i just made my own.
A friend of mine sang the lyrics for me (thanks hanne, you're the best
), this was the first time for her ever singing something like this (trance)...she normally sings to rock.. so i'm gonna kill you if you bitch on 'my' vocalist
and this is an early version. i have to change the volume and reverb levels of the vocals i think..
ah well...please have a listen
and tell me what you think, what to improve etc
thnx

edit: this is also the first time i ever worked with vocals so dont be to hard on me either hehehe
i love the tune itself, deep bass, good percussion.. but yeah, i'm going to bitch about the vocals.. some reverb will certainly help a bit, but she doesn't always seem to sing on key.. dunno how she sounds on a rock track, but she doesn't quite fit in here..
sorry, when can we hear a dub?
i haven't heard the original...but...here it goes.
Wonderful percussion! I think the vocalist is ok, come problems note wise...but you can hide those with effects
I blame you though, for not tripping the vocals out.
put some delay on the vocals. Always do SOMETHING with the vocals at least once in the song. Whether it be chopping them up, phasing them, flangering, whatever. do SOMETHING! Not to fond of the lead... I think it needs some beef. At the very least it should be leveled up i think. nice overall (esp for a first vocal track!)!!! 8/10
The track itself is very nice. It has more power than the original but isn't too 'hard' either. I like the sound of the kick and the bass.
The vocals... What should I say?...
To me it sounds she's a bit nervous, especially in the beginning. Did she sing when hearing this record or were the vocals recorded without this track? (in Dutch: heeft ze de zang gedaan met dit nummer als basis of met het origineel als basis? Het lijkt namelijk alsof ze het origineel heeft ingezongen en dat past niet op de versie die jij hebt gemaakt
Anyway, this song has potential IMO. If you mess around a bit with the vocals (effects) it can turn out to be very nice, because the music itself is very nice
thanks for feedback guys
and as for recording..she had the original tune on her headphones..
so it's possible that that is the cause that it is a little offkey.. although some words (like 'things' and 'bring') are definately not good... but i couldnt be bothered
i think she was a bit nervous yeah.. heheh what would you be if you were a 16yrs old girl alone on my room lol
j/k
i will try putting delay and fx on the vocals nic
this is just an early version...just wanted to know what to improve and stuff
@tor on a rocktrack she is amazing
but the she can 'shout' a bit more haha...trance is too sweet i think
but i will make a dub as well if you like
not sure if i call it andain - beautiful things remix...i rather name it john-trackname then...since it doesnt sounds like the original in any way hehehe
anyway thnx for replying all
anyone else?

Have to reiterate what everyone else has been saying. The track is wonderful, it's the vocals that kill it. I believe you mentioned she sings in a band, she definitely doesn't have the sweet voice you normally hear in EDM. I'm not knocking her vocals, they just don't fit. I'm sure she's not experienced doing this (obviously, hehe) and her voice isn't the typical "sweet" voice.
Would love to hear a dub as well if you could scrap one together.
Nice job m8!
no offence, but this is such an insult to an amazing tune.
because it's a draft mix and not completed i think it's 'ok' - the idea is good, you need to iron out some of the vocals though, lower them a little in the mix, and add some effects - they sound really dry.
i think this will be quite good after the tweaking
you might want to re-record the vocal again though- the more times you do it the less nervous this girl will be.
I'll have to reiterate what has already been said here. Its a great tune, with some shoddy vocals. The vocals are not BAD (lord knows she sings better than me! LoL), but they just seem very out of place in this song. Might want to add some effects to them, or as it has been suggested, have her record them again. Keep working at it, and it could be a winner.
Hey John
I think you did a nice job on pretty much everything... Perhaps some clearer synths might do the job. The vocals... well, I think you should make a dub mix first. She does have a nice voice, but now to sing on key would be the next thing to do
Cheers,
Wim

she wasnt happy at all with what i recorded..but we didnt have time to do more so i just used what i had, i think i shouldnt have done that, or at least not posted it..my bad i guess
and ill post a dub soon... but as i posted earlier..a dub remix wouldnt really be a remix since it just doesnt sound like the original at all.
There's only one thing wrong with this, guess what? The vocals, please make a dub, this is hurting my ears
Lets discuss the vocals:
I want to remember a track played by Oakenfold in his great World Tour:
Blondie - "Nothing Is Real But The Girl [Danny Tenaglia Club Mix]"
The female vocalist wasn't "sweet" to. But hammered. I think, as many of you, she has to rerecord the song a several times and she could sing a bit louder (a bit of "shouting") and in the mix you turn down the volume of her vocals.
A vocoder can do the rest to let sing her "on key"...
for leading the notes...your synths could be a little more sharpened.
Rest of the track is done very well.
And all critics has to remember that this is a "real" vocalist, nothin sampled from a vocal disc. Let's work with her...

the track itself sounds very pro man, good job.. but as said before, the vocals just don`t seem 2 fit it.. i know its very hard 2 make a vocal track urself, a friend of mine did one aswell, and he had a very hard time making it
just keep on making vocal tracks and u`ll get better, just as everything in production.. i gues
grtz,
