world wide wank (my site)

hey peeps, ive uploaded my tracks onto a temporary site at

http://aesthetic.senseimagery.com

tell me what you think

Posted by Solstice on Jun-03-2003 07:20:

ahh dude, not a good idea to tile a huge jpg like that for the background of your site, takes ages to load ( even on cable) and looks very tacky...

maybe just stick to a table and a 1 color background? after it is temporary and you want as many people as possible to view your site right?

Haviung bright Yellow and white text ain't good either

Try havin black text or black bg

Posted by escee on Jun-03-2003 07:28:

heh, he is a dj and producer, not a website creator

Cryogenic i dont like, the bassline stands out too much, just sounds really average

Space and time is nice, sounds really good, except the melody reminds me of another song, what song is the melody from?

Posted by julianreynolds on Jun-03-2003 07:49:

nice work mate... photo looks good!!

Posted by Aesthetic on Jun-03-2003 13:47:

im not trying to show off my (lack of) web design skills..

exactly what escee said.. uhm.. the actual site isnt really what im aiming at, its just to showcase the music im working on.. please feel free to comment on them, and not the site .

thanks julianreynolds, i had the flu that day actually so i think u can see it in my face.

appreciate the comments on the b/g i thought something was better than nothing.. hmm will look into it

Posted by Paulie on Jun-03-2003 14:11:

Hey man good to see a local producer trying to get his stuff out there. LIke escee said and i dont think the others meant harm by it but hes not showing off his web design skills.

Cyrogenic is one of my fav tunes from dave, real trippa and nice bassline imo keep up the good work matey

Posted by Hybrid Junkie on Jun-03-2003 14:12:

dave I ended up pressing "stop" cos it was taking sooo fukn long on dial up

I had to select the text to read it cos it was invisible without the background heheheh

will get the tracks asap, too tired atm tho.

Posted by Aesthetic on Jun-04-2003 01:30:

thanks for the comments euphorica i appreciate them.. no worries hybrid junkie thats sweet =)

umm please have a listen to "Wide Open".. its basically done im just awaiting comments.. i guess ill update that bit too.

despite straining my neck trying to negotiate the photo... i thought the songs weren't that bad at all.

in fact, i would go far to say as i enjoyed them. i agree with Impotent@Aus, Cryogenic is the best of the lot, very atmospheric and distinct melody.

good shit dave, will u dare venture into hard (harder) trance ala Dumonde?

Posted by Aesthetic on Jun-05-2003 10:29:

appreciate the comments dudikoff, yeah i know the site design is lame, but its not the focal point of the site.. umm yeah, cryogenic was the first one i did that was actually any good so im surprised at its reach so far..

i dont think i have the capacity to produce hard trance such as dumonde, but i mean, you never know what mood you find yourself in so maybe one day.. i do love dumonde too =)

on a side note, i hear armin van buuren is collecting unreleased music for a forethcoming cd hes releasing in september, so ill be mailing these 3 and possibly another one im doing within a couple of weeks to the big man himself..

fingers and toes crossed

Did it go off? (If you have it pressed yet, I have to get a copy.. )

I just listened to Cryogenic
not bad!

I think you need to work on your levels of each of the tracks
ie. your kick is too loud and dominent and your bassline at the climax of the song can hardly be heard, maybe fiddle around with the EQ on the bassline aswell

good start tho

Just listened to "Space And Time". I like. It's got a vaguely dark feel to it, perfect for a 1am-3am timeslot

What license are you releasing these songs under? Public domain? Open Content-ish?

I'd actually like to get hold of these tracks at a decent bitrate, eg, LAME 3.93.1 at --alt-preset standard

128kb/s isn't really enough for burning out to try on a CDJ.

Posted by Aesthetic on Jun-10-2003 03:35:

karl - i know i know, though i have to look into pressing as such.. obviously id have to take these songs to a studio and properly master them..

jace, appreciate the comments.. and cryogenic was probably the first good song that i actually did so it was kind of mastered during my learning curve (and im still learning )..

bragi, im quite glad you'd find use for this. you'd be the second who favoured "space and time" and i really appreciate it. i will do it at any bitrate you so desire, so please recommend me a decent one and it shall be done.

cheers and thanks for the comments all!

-dave

yeah.. i wasn't sure if you'd had that done...

heard about the shameful turnout on the 7th.. why were you playing warm-up? that's stupid... (sorry promoters, but it is... you know he's better than that)...

oh well.. thats the way things go...

hi dave,

finally got a chance to have a listen to ur tunes. just a bit of a disclaimer tho, that since i haven't delved into any production myself, feel free to disagree and don't take anything i have to say to heart. last thing i wanna do is offend anybody, espesh thru something i'm sure they've put heart into.

having listened to all of the tunes, the progress of your learning curve is pretty obvious. technically, production wise, you can hear the diff, "wide open", sounding a lot less amateur than cryogenic. with that said, i think cryogenic is ironically the one that holds most potential. stating what's already been said, u gotta remaster the tune [cryogenic]. the kick drum is way over emphasized. in terms of mastering, i dont think a professional studio is required jus yet. jus make sure u gotta pair of studio monitors, whether they be speakers or headphones. i also like ur driving bassline after the breakdown, but jus from the ears, i think parts of it clash with the main synth melody. could just be me? possible improvements: do something more with the melody! and work on the buildup! the tune really does hold potential

dave, u still gotta long way to go before thinkin of gettin stuff pressed tho. your synths still have somewhat of an amateur sound, but i think something like that begins to fade away over time as you become more familiar/experienced with your softsynths. keep workin at it, and before u know it, you'll be like guyver who got his stuffed first released primarily using fruity and various softsynths like vaz, absynth etc. which reminds me, what programs are u using?

btw, luv the intro elements u use in wide open. are they bongo drums or something in the beginning?

anyway, sorry for the critique essay dude.
jus hope it was constructive

cheers jaykue from all the comments you have left and i can say that i totally agree with everything you've said.. wide open is the most recent one i have done and you are right the tracks are progressing at a steady rate..

when i have enough time i do plan to go back and re do cryogenic, possibly taking the notes, exporting them to midi files, and rebuilding the entire song from scratch that way i have a clear head about it..

i do have pretty good monitors, the ones i use for djing (headphones) but i need to go into an atmosphere that offers bottom end, mid range, and the high frequencys (ie that "live" speaker sound).. and since my mums always pissed off about music here.. i wont be able to have a mini studio till i move out .

but yeah thanks for the comments!
