Mixes should be 30-60 Minutes

You can record a mix You cannot use the same mix twice
Mixes that are recorded will be streamed by myself or one of the other judges or whoever has streaming capabilities.

Any medium is acceptable

At first you may challenge anyone- You can only have one challenge out at a time. From the time of challenge you have 7 days to comlete the challenge. If you challenge someone and they do not reply in 7 days its an auto-loss for the challenged who didnt respond.

Judging is agreed upon by the two contestants. Can either be 1 person or up to a whole chat room. Both mixes are to played for the judge(s) without knowledge of
Who did which mix or who the two contestants are. When over a simple count of who votes for which set- TRY to have an ODD number of people so there are no TIES. If you are in a chat room you must be present from beginning to end and announce you would like to judge the mixes.

Mixes are judged purely on mixing skills and song selection and are at the discretion of the judges whim.

There is space for you to upload your mix to and will be streamed by someone else or downloaded by the judges.

New players will be assigned no rank ("--"), and may challenge other unranked players or the 4 lowest ranked.

All requests for a match that are rejected must be reported to the moderator.

The ladder runs indefinitely.
When movement on the ladder has become stale, the rules may be temporarily modified to promote movement.

I think thats pretty clear cut and dry!

looks good ..

..competitors would need to be ready to mix as much as ..say.. once a week or so. and theyd have to be able to make a mix in a few hours. and they'd need a high speed connection to upload the mix for the judges. something like that

maybe we use mix comp VI to do initial ranking?

also, check out this thread for some ideas we've already had

bring it

cheers

i think we're going for short spur of the moment mixes, but you'd have to do them as they come. i'm not positive, but i think you'd have to do new mixes as the challenges come. no entering old stuff just because it came out good

I was thinking more LIVE - like a battle :P

make a chat room- everyone can listen

30 min mini set

yea- rankings from Mixoff 6 would be a good start
if they wanted in

wtf
i dunno about this...dj sets are meant to be enjoyed, not to be in competition with each other.
I thought we were here to share each others's passion for music, not compete with each other.
Do you know how bitter this can get?

More of a track selection competition and mixing ability-

I wouldnt want to go up against someone who is weaker than me.

You dont get any better unless you practice and try to compete with someone who is better.

After time it will weed itself out and there will be a definite rankings system.

Posted by Nrg2Nfinit on Jun-04-2003 11:20:

there wil need to be several judges to sign up for this competition..
this can turn into pure chaos other wise no pun intended

and people prefer different genres of trance as well for instance, i love club trance.. which alot of tranceaddicts consider to be cheese

so its just going to turn out to be a popularity contest..

there will be too much voting going on and alot of discrepencies i think

ill wait for judges before i decide to sign up

best of luck getting this thing going i hope it works out!

Posted by tu_face on Jun-04-2003 11:33:

i would be up for this but the only place i have access to broadband is at my mates.. and he cant get streaming to work

Posted by b|p|3m on Jun-04-2003 12:35:

It seems to be a very interesting idea also i think it's hard to organize.
Good Luck!

If we can get enough judges, I propose to do what they do in some sports competitions:

We delete the higher and the lower judge score (they do this in Gymnastic,...)

So it should be more fair

ill help with the judging where i can

the fairest way of doing it would be to have 5 judges, remove the high and low scores as u said, then take an average of the other 3

Posted by Luke Terry on Jun-04-2003 16:16:

Cool

i would definately be in for this , but it needs to be fully sorted out before i'm sticking this

i only have 56k tho so you could use my taw sets if you want, or i would be willing to do more sets as long as you give me overnite to upload, and be assured i won't be practising them seeing as i really have no time at all to spare at the minute

Posted by gibbo on Jun-04-2003 16:20:

I'm interested in this it'll give me summat to do this summer but sounds like its gonna take a hell of a lot of organising and stuff.

Lol...you again..when did you crawl out of your cave?
All I'm saying is that if you've read some of the stuff people have posted on this board, this can get really ugly and sour quickly. Music is one of those things that everybody can love and share a common ground with, but at the same time, because it's a thing that shares no boundaries, people can have very different opinions on it. Just listen to some of the people on this board regarding hip hop and rap. Half the time, people don't even know the difference between the two, let alone the meaning of the two words in general. Heck, re-read our bitter little bitching we were doin to each other a while ago regarding your mix. Not to mention the age discrepancy on this board.
DJ Apx, lets save other people's time and quit the ignorant 2nd grade comments you make, aight? I'm sure I'm not the only one on this board who've got better things to do than bring up bad, old beef between board members aka you and I. You do your thing, and I'll do mine, so grow some nuts and lets keep it that way. Professional and respectful.
Peace.

BTW,If it happens to turn out good, I'm all for it! It would be a really fun way to keep each other's skills and passion for music alive...something that wouldn't hurt anybody.

Posted by xKaoSx on Jun-05-2003 04:14:

Basically- This is how it is-

You dont do it unless you have time-

You can do it with dial up or broadband. quality of the broadcast really doesnt matter-
You cant do a challange or make a challenge at least once every 2 weeks then this is probably not for you.
Judges can either be :

1 that both agree on
5 Random

Everyone joins a chat room and the whole room is a judge.
if theres 20 people in the room listening everyone has a vote-

I would rather do it live as opposed to doing something recorded.

Higher ranked person has the option of going first- or letting the other person go first.

You have 1 week to reply to a challenge- if you dont- you lose your spot.

Moderators will keep track of challenges-

We have enough servers to host anyone for mass listenings.

Any kind of mixing is acceptable. MP3, CD, VINYL

These are ground rules and not in stone- certainly take Idea's-
Maybe someone skilled enough could design a site for it. Maybe sponsered by Idealsound or something?

But lets go from there-

Only REAL problem I see is different flavors. I personally dont like DnB much. just have to get judges who like most everything.

Once again you prove that you are a retard . Second grade comments , OK , here is one of your posts :

In case you forgot you were disrespecting artists like : Push , Andain , Riva , Gouryella , Airbase , Microbe , The Quest , Ayla Pres. Yel , Airwave & Armin Van Buuren . You called their music :

So just drop it and deal with the fact that you can't stand who/what you are so you have to show the world that everybody else is as pathetic as you are ... because nobody is .

I apologize to the author of this thread and anybody participating in it for this post but I simply can't stand ignorant and disturbed people like dJohn . I'm a usually nice to everybody but just like every human being I have my limits and he crossed the line .

No problem , I'll simply ignore it for you from now on . I do have a lot of respect for your idea , I think it's a great way to spot new talent , the question I have is : Will the scoring be effected by the medium used in the mix ? Example : MP3 vs. Vinyl vs. CD . I've worked in night clubs for five years now so I could judge the mixes from a club perspective . People do mix in different style when they spin at home , or simply are making a mix for people to listen on the radio or their car stereo , than when they mix in a crowded club , full of people wanting nothing else but to have a good time & dance all night long .

Well- when I mix- I try to evoke emotion and the ever holy "raising of the hands".
I would mix like I was at the club and 1000 people were listening.

Medium really shouldnt matter.

Just like a rock star , that is so cool . There really is no greater feeling than that . I have to admit that I'll never forget my first time spinning in a club . Even thou I had ten years of experience in theater& six years of playing in a band , I felt as if this was my first public performance . After that for a week I could not get the image of the dance floor packed with people out of my head . Every time I closed my eyes I saw a packed dance floor & to make things even better a couple hot chicks dancing right in front of me on a balcony . It really is amazing when people dig your music ...
