Exclamation what to take to make studying more efective

I need some advice about substances (and I don't mean drugs) which could make studying more effective. Something that improves memory, concentration etc.

I use coffee, but it doesn't work for long. I also heard magnesium is ok, but I had stomach problems while taking it before. My friend uses lecitine, but it's expensive.

Any advices ?

i think viagra is what u need.

Posted by Rostros on Jun-06-2003 12:52:

but dont swallow the tablet , this will cause all the blood to stay in your head ,

basically chocolate does the trick, generally anything sweet, I think in some expiraments people that ate sugar scored higher in IQ tests than when they did when they had no sugar

besides that I don't think you can do much more, just make sure you had a good sleep so your mind is fresh and that nothing's on your mind cause it will just distract you

P.S. - on the other hand the viagra thing might do the trick

books.

I used to have this problem too, but then I just solved it by letting go of studying.

I'm a little worried though, for my mates start laughing and pointing at me immediately when I show up at school...

Ritalin and/or Dexedrine should do the trick.

ADDERALL aka Amphetamines..the best study drug out there. not only does it make you focus but it'll also wake you up if you're realy sleepy (military pilots use them for that purpose) and they also suppress your appetite so you won't go too hungry during those all-night study sessions. the 5 or 10 mg pills are the best.

yeah... concerta is another one like that but less intense. i know a lot of ppl who take adderal in clubs....

Posted by Excite on Jun-06-2003 19:16:

concerta is a derivative of amphetamines specialized for weight loss.

concerta is supposed to be a replacement for adderal but it uses the Oros technology, which allows for long term time release, making the effect less drastic as teh drug enters your system.

aren't amphetamines considered illegal drugs (ie. speed)?

you ppl got it all wrong

fuck taking substances to study better

you just need to study more effectively

you need to change the way you study

the way most ppl study is largely ineffective

that is because people are not taught the tricks to study better.

If you study better, you get better marks and you have more time to do other things.

Having a higher IQ does not mean better concentration and/or memory.

I agree. They are two separate factors.

^Well, for starters, don't cram in one day or procrastinate.

Yeah, like more drugs.

i drank a starbucks frappucino to study for a final. I think it worked. It had a lot of sugar, and i dont know how much caffeine it had though.

what about those drinks called "boost" or something.

i expected you to say that dave rofl

well when trying to memorize a list of things

i always break it down to acronyms

i find it's faster because when you remember the acronym, you remember what's with it.

i also find that you should prepare a few days before

like an hour or two 3 days before
then an hour or two 2 days before

i find being prepared

when memorizing big numbers or facts

break them down into chunks

143879765495090

let's say this was an answer to a question on a test

break it down to 143 879 765 495 090 (5 chunks)

the mind can only hold 7+ or - 2 bytes of info (which i learned in consumer psychology) memorizing the whole thing would be 15 bytes and not easy to remember. 3 chunks of 5 is only 3 bytes, so the mind has an easier time. Now sadly I'm not in the 7+ or - 2 bytes category because I'm in the 1.8% of the population who have a photographic memory. Extremely powerful when you choose to care (which is rare hehehe) but I remember in pictures. So accurate that i remember pictures of pages but then again, I need to use the same memory tricks as everyone else. I also find having a friend to test with your notes helps because they can bounce it off you and you off of them (now guys this is not trying to score with the hottie that is studying with you.....that's for after the test you lamahs). Also ASK QUESTIONS TO PPL WHO UNDERSTAND WHEN YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND. Most people I find just accept not understanding a concept...ask ppl who do!...i understand university courses are not the best because the teacher blabs at you for 2-3 hrs and you leave. Finally, GET SLEEP, i find taking a test when I am tired.....does not work because your mind is not at full capacity. Also find you if you are a morning, afternoon or evening person and study during that time. I tend to study mid afternoon if possible because i find my mind is the freshest. Now these are some of the tricks that i have learned and it won't work for everyone because everyone learns different.

I had a college roomate who knew all the memory tricks. A couple that i know are...

1. repetition over a long period of time (like a week). so no cramming like Galapidate said.

2. Make up acronym, Ex, the great lakes is HOMES. The letters stand for Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, Superior.

3. Break thinks up into smaller chunks.
For example which number is easier to remember?
2128730981 or (212)873-0981
