my introduction for the forum (w/ track download)

g'day fellow aussies..

here's to my first post in this section! Hopefully you'll all see more of me on here and recognise my name. I'll predominantly be hanging out in the "production" section as I produce tunes myself but that was before i noticed that this place had an aussie section too.. so i guess i'm gonna make myself comfortable in here too..

i already posted up an 'intro' thread in the production forum but i guess i'll copy most of it here too.. my main genre of speciality was at first drum & bass, also playing live gigs and DJ'ing at local Adelaide raves, but as of around 2000, grew away from d&b and more into garage and also a lot of trance, with a dashing of r&b on the side. =) Now I'm just concentrating on trance (and d&b when the record labels ask me to).

Favourite producers: Above & Beyond (absolute favourites), Oceanlab, Thrillseekers, Armin van Buuren.. you guys know the drill.

Anyway, if possible, I'd love for you guys to review my latest track. Direct download from here:

Wherever You Are (Instrumental) (11.3 MB)

And if you'd like check out my other available tunes from this thread here. Thanks in advance and hopefully hear from you guys soon!

i thought Above and Beyond were Oceanlab?

Posted by escee on Jun-18-2003 02:57:

Welcome

i dont like the track too much, bit cheesy for my liking. Just my personal taste, so dont take it the wrong way and never come back.

Posted by Phorte on Jun-18-2003 03:01:

its all good =) everyone has their own tastes.. thanks for listening!

and yes, above & beyond are oceanlab..

thanks for listening mate!! i'm only just starting out in trance as of the last year or so.. but overall ive been producing since around '93 in other genres.

my gear has changed over time.. from early trackers to lots of hardware (which i had to sell due to financial reasons hehe) and now its back to software again.. i mainly use cubase sx/reason2.5 and lots of vst's thrown in.. for that song tho it was mainly reason..

check out my other tunes if u have time too! =)

hey man welcome to the boards, good to have another to add to the Adelaide posse.... watch out Melbourne!!

Just listened to the tune and it is ALL quality. I really really like it. There are one or two things i think could be changed / refined to have yourself an almost perfect song... but yeah fantastic work!!

i perform (now this includes both live sets and also dj'ing sets) under the name "Phorte" as well but you wouldntve heard of me because ive never played out trance.. im known as being a drum&bass producer around adelaide with releases on 5158 records but i stopped playing out back in 2000 so i could concentrate on producing more. i was at a few ultraworlds, a lot of adrave shows and a lot of other large outdoor doofs hehe...

all i need now is a new name to produce under for my trance side as i dont want it to clash with my drum&bass side hehe..

if you guys are interested, check out my other songs.. here are links to some of the better ones imo hehehe

Far Away (Instrumental) [Melodic 2-step Garage - 6.3 MB, 4:32, 2002]
- Unreleased personal favourite. My own take on UK garage. Pending vocals.

Liquid Skies [Melodic Drum & Bass - 9.9 MB, 7:06, 2002]
- Liquidesque drum & bass. Released again on 5158 Records (FOFE003).

First Class [Uplifting Trance - 12.1 MB, 8:39, 2002]
- My first serious try at trance. No new concepts here - just testing structures for myself. Written at same time as Wherever You Are so its similar.

Inverted (Forum Compo) [Drum & Bass Roller - 6.3 MB, 4:29, 2003]
- Winning song for the Drum&BassArena forum competition involving using a set sample pack only.

Chillout in Progress [Chillout - 2.2 MB, 1:35, 2003]
- Work in progress for a shortfilm score. Cross-genres here.

thanks in advance!!

Well done! Track is fucking good.... I'm downloading the others now and will let you know what i think.

Im not dj/producer or anything but I still know what i like, i like this

Keep up the good work mate!

:edit:

The other tracks are also very good. I really like Liquid Skies. Very nice. Living in perth, surrounded by DnB freaks you get a taste for it, and this track is top stuff.

Posted by Serp on Jun-19-2003 06:20:

nice tunes there

Posted by stamper on Jun-19-2003 13:23:

hey, just had a listen to your other tunes and even tho some of them arent my style they are all brilliantly produced! The strings used in Far Away are fantastic! I think you should definately think about doing a more trancey mix of that tune.
