Streaming Internet Radio for car!
Wouldn't it be fuckin kick ass? I'm never home when a good set is on, and sometimes I have to leave to go somewhere in the middle of one. It would be sweet to listen to a live set in your car, what does everyone else think.
Sorry to get anybody's hopes up from the title of the thread.
peace,
Steve
That would be pretty cool.
I bet it could be done.
but not easily
and not cheap either.
hook up a cell/sat phone or other reliable phone to your modem in a laptop. connect to stream, have line out running from laptop to line in of a deck that has such an option. Streaming media. tada
i read something about this actually being avaliable somewhere.
Cells transmit at about a maximum 30 Kbits/s ... Or so I last checked.. :P
Hmm, how would you go about having a Cable or DSL like connection in your car?, Unless you have one of those Direct DSL Satilite services, but I think it be strange to see a car passing by with one of those Direct TV Dishes on the roof of there cars.
This will happen... one day.... but not for at least 5-10 years...
The local radio stations will do whatever they can to make sure something like this NEVER happens
well if you can listen to a set live in your computer
in my city they are offering "wireless roadrunner" for laptops
so that means you can be hooked up with cable internet even in a car so you could play it out of that i guess
closest way i can think of
There's already satellite radio like Sirius and XM that hook up to your car radio. Only problem is that there are no livesets on them. All they need to do is have the electronica channels on satellite radio start broadcasting livesets.

Wouldn't work... maybe in the future...
Bandwidth Costs...
You need some sort of wireless hookup to a streaming server... and a bloody aerial or sattelite dishy.. hehehe...
Streaming servers have to be everywhere = shitload of $$$
Record Industry.... those wankers always step in to change!!!
Ahhh.. see would be nice... but i really think its not possible...
my cell phone gets like 300 kbps
technicalyl i COULD do it if i really wanted to
and if there was another person in the car to run the laptop

Ahh, some of you are going about it the wrong way......We HAVE mobile streaming audio via Sirius and XM. The difference is, how can it be config'ed to each individual user. C'mon, some of you are making it sound impossible as if XM and Sirius don't already exist. Thats the technology right there. The question is how you'd play what YOU want to hear.
Excluding the radio and all legal issues, if there was an extra service with XM and Sirius (which would cost more ofcourse), where you could open an app, queue all mp3s/livesets you wish to hear, have a constant up stream of 128 up to a sirius/XM server, sirius/xm boosts it up via satellite, then relays it back to your car, you'd be somewhat good to go. (ofcourse its a "little" more complex than that)
OR the more logical
You purchase space via Sirius/XM, and pretty much have you're own personal virtual online playlist. From there its relayed up to sat.
With proper configuration, the right receiver, and a password protected private frequency, (assigned to each user, during each session/dependance on location), you're somewhat in business. (again, satellite technology is a "little" more complex than that, i wont get into it tho)
The blueprints and and work is already done, its just a matter of sirius/xm allowing such services, improving their technology, and fighting the millions of legal issues. If anything prevents this, or why it hasn't already been done, is basically because of legal issues, especially right now. Radio stations, record companies, etc. This is the LAST thing they want to see.
If it makes you guys feel any better, i'm listening to fergie and making this post via satellite
I know enough about satellite streaming technology to tell you its highly possible, but with all the legality issues theyd have to face, it wont happen anytime soon. Its the legal issues that hold the technology behind, it scares the money makers.
why can't i buy my own satellite? i wanna buy one!
wouldn't setting up your peripherals be dangerous while driving?
