precise pitch change question...
I've had my Pioneer CMX 3000 cd decks for a few months now. I'm coming along pretty good. I do have a question though, regarding all CD decks...the pitch change readouts for my decks only display 1/5 of a percent change...like 1.25% for example. I want to know if that is as precise as the decks get, or if that is just the readout, and you can get a more precise pitch change, that the digital display doesn't show...
thanks
Generally spoken an analog pitch will be more precise.
You don't have discrete values in the analog domain, so in theory if you blow against the pitch slider, you'll change the pitch, but only an infinitely small amount.
On cd players, the pitch is digital. And the drawback of digital is that it's using discrete values. Your pitch will always work in steps.
So yes, what you see on your display is the pitch resolution. You can't get smaller pitch changes than those.
The most precise cdj I know is the CDJ1000 with a resolution of 0.01%
Some have 0.05% but most cdj's still have a resolution of 0.1% which means you'll have to readjust them more to stay in sync.
Thanks.
