M.I.K.E. aka PUSH overload

Dont get me wrong, mike is by far my favorite producer. He has such a distinct sound, impossible to confuse with any other productions. My skin crawls every time I hear the legacy....

BUT, it seems like he remixing too many songs. NOt that most aren't great remixes, but lately, I hear so many of his songs that the impact isn't what it once was.

Most trance sets at clubs in Toronto are so filled with Push songs, that hearing 4-6 in a two hour set is common. I would have to guess that the big trance djs have at least 20% of their record bag filled with push.

Anyone else feel the same?
(I'm not knocking PUSH, just how many remixes he does)

I personally think MIKE needs to focus on quality over quantity. The new Push tune is lackluster. He ought to release just his Plastic Boy and Mass Effect tunes, along with the better Push productions. Urban Shakedown was okay, but I see his Solar Factor alias going down the same path as the rest.

I, for one, have gotten a bit bored of his increasingly plain sound and more numerous remixes and releases. I call it Bonzai Syndrome.

OK omfg no, Solar Factor fucking owns! Deep sonar fucking rocks like no other and no return is pretty wicked as well, plastic boy productions are incredible, yes push can get a bit bland if you OD on it, but no one makes you listen to all his releases, you chose to, limit it, drop a few of his ch00ns from time to time and they never lose their magik. Universal nation, the legacy, Tranzy state of mind, Strange world, all are timeless tracks. Plastic boy is also dropping excelent stuff, there are a few tracks that arent as great, but silver bath and live another life are breath taking. Producing can get addicting for those guys, and for anyone haha, so they hear a song they want to have a go at it, just as a fan limit yourself and you will apreciate it a lot more IMO

i think deep sonar is horrible

cobalt is right
especially his remixes of this year are pretty lame, maybe 1 or 2 are acceptable
they all sound the same, like he is out of inspiration
its idd a sort of bonzai syndrome
lvee is doing the same things, he throws us down with all his aliases
they are not bad songs at the moment, but mostly very fast forgotten

i think a lot of producers suffer from the same syndrome
thats probably why some young unknown producers will rise this year
and i think thats a good thing

his remix of airwave sucked, but the nrc one was good,

Urban shakedown owns ! I think this is one of MIKE's best ever melodies, I would even put it up there with Strange world !

I do agree though with the fact that there has been a MIKE Overload, I feel like every time I search for new tracks there's a Mike one amongst the pack.

I still think that Journey of Life and the remix of Here Comes the Rain are awesome tunes

Think Northstarz vs. Pez Tellett is a way better remix of Here Comes The Rain, but also Push remix is ok, unlike other this years' remixes...
But that's just my humble opinion...

i'm not sure what you mean with the remixes sucked.. what remixes?

rank 1 - airwave: i agree with this one, the idea was kinda good but the huge breakdown with shit-sounding strings comparing to the original fucks it up

as one - forever waiting: excellent tune, just a bit too similar to ice cream

ofra haza - love song: TUNE! awesome.. one of the best vocal tunes this year

the gift - love angel (mike rmx): great dark tune..

robert gitelman - things 2 say and here comes the rain i haven't heard..

but the best thing of mike this year is obviously his original productions. mike - turn off the lights, plastic boy - live another life, the gift - love angel, calling the freak - your time is up, musix - forgotten, push - journey of life, solar factor - fashion slam.. that's just too many awesome tunes to mention.

i think he's doing both on quantity and on quality. maybe some tracks are a bit too similar between themselves, but still, is there anyone else that has put out that many quality tunes this year?

Posted by Nook on Jun-22-2003 16:50:

i can't believe it, his airwave remix really really is awesome!! way better then the lame rank 1 repeat a hit version. the new solar factor "fashion slam" will be great. you can listen top a sample on his website. then turn out the lights is amazing, excellent tune. the gift - love angel remix is great. the nrc remix i have problems with, way to repeative from earlier work.

A majority of his tunes/remixes are still quality, but I think he needs to take a break to give us a chance to hear stuff OTHER than Push tunes/remixes in sets.

Urban Shakedown is much MORE than a simple plain 'Okay'. It OWNS. And I can live with a M.I.K.E overload, if that's what you would term it is.

Posted by dJohn on Jun-22-2003 19:27:

What do you guys think about Night Hawks and No Return...I really like those two, kinda underrated...

Posted by vito on Jun-22-2003 21:00:

no return is top drawer, i'm gonna check out night hawks

i haven't heard any mike tunes since urban shakedown, which doesn't rate in comparison to his usual quality
i've been having a drought of his stuff for almost a year, exluding urban shakedown

Posted by Rising on Jun-22-2003 21:09:

mike is very original if u ask me... many djs in our days trying to make melodies / sounds like he does..

many rip-offs from his old classics.. i think he is trying to show he ownz this sound .. (by making quantity and not quality)

it is normal that some tunes by the same artist rock and some suck!

the monotonic sound he used lately is a crap i hope he wil change it soon and wil make more emotional anthems as he made in the past.
