Sennheiser HD-25 sp headphones... need some feedback

Well, my sony 700's are majorly cracked in a few areas so I'm planning on buying some new headphones.

Been looking at the Sennheiser HD-25's and wanted to know if anyone here owns a pair and what they think about them..

They aren't too pricey and seem a good choice for my next buy. Anyone got any feedback on these headphones?

go for the normal HD25! its way better, and stronger.
I have one on my head right now,and I use it for Producing nd DJing, its pure quality

Heya.

I have the HD25SP. Kicks ass.
Except the 2 wires issue (one wire for each side, tends to get twisted once in a while) they rock.
I don't see myself switching to anything else at the moment.

Go for it.

Dunno if I'd want to cos it set me back an extra 40.

Is there much difference between the two? Sound quality, Toughness?

Definitely go for the HD-25 over the SP's. I have a pair of HD-25 and nothing compares... well maybe the pair of sennheisers that go for $15K

Great clarity, and well balanced sound in general.

They're very sturdy and you can individiually replace all the parts.

I tried the HD-25SP's once and found they weren't as strong etc. I felt like I was going to break them. That and the dual cable thing which got annoying.

dont get the SPs just get the normal 25s!

they are way better!

Agreed! I have a pair of HD25's, and I wouldn't trade them for anything else.

I've tried the 25SP's, but they don't even come close to the 'real' thing.

Just buy the normal HD25s, they are definately worth the extra money.

yah spend the extra $ and get the hd25. Don'y bother with the sp model.

Crazy Stuff

Currently I am looking into a set of headphones and was shown the HD25's. They were the guys own so he takes one of the cans off and lobs it about 15 feet from where we were standing. Than says "oh yeah, the reason I like these is because if I just wrecked that one, it takes 20secs to replace."

I dont know about the rest of you but I dont think I would be tossing my own headphone speakers around. It was a really good demonstartion though.

I've heard nothing but wicked reviews for these, I will prob end up getting them or the Pioneer Hdj 1000s. Or the Sony's dmr V6's...whichever I find suit me.

When you get to that level of quality it eventually has to boil down to personal preference.

the Senn HD25 was 'the dj' headphone for a few years. I think it still is considered as a standard for some ppl. However, I feel that many things like I feel that advertising and sponsership influences many djs to buy lesser quality headphones. Many times i see ppl considering headphones that a couple of years back would be considered junk. However, now those same 'junk' cans are respectable, because they saw tiesto or Van dyk wearing them. Pure BS.
Also, part of the reason why I think the Senn HD25 has not gotten the respect it deserves from a broad market, is because of its looks.
Many consumers, djs or not, like purchasing items that are pleasing to the eye, and they usually will sacrifice a bit of quality for it.
I actually got a chance to try out the senns HD25 just a couple of weeks back.... all i have to say is they are quality. I own a pair of MDR7506 (pro versoin of sony's V6), and even though the sony mDR7506 does sound good for its price, I feel the Sennheiser HD25 sound better. Highs are more natural, not as bright and the bass and mids are better. I dont think we can also compare the HD25 to the HD280, cause you cantt... sound is just better on the HD25, ive heard them both. The sound is even better on my MDR7506 than the HD280

the best part is they are totally replaceable too

now you cant beat that!

also got the HD25SP

and idd those wires are killing me

I gotta agree with most here. Spend the extra bucks on the HD 25 instead of the SP. It's build stronger, and the SP sounds muddier than the regular 25.

Looks like you all convinced me. Gonna spend the extra cash and get the HD25's.

Cheers for the feedback from all of ya

Right, I got the HD25's through the post on Monday and I been using them this week.

First thing I gotta say is that im really satisfied with these phones. They are so light and comfortable to use.. sometimes I forget I have them on. Secondly the sound quality is great - best I've heard in any headphones.

So the verdict is: The HD25's win hands down compared to my old Sony 700's. Cheers for all the people who replied urging me to splash out the extra cash for these

But, are there any bad things bout these headphones? Are they goin to break after a year like my sony 700's? Anyone with any extra feedback?

Cheers

Quality or durability has never been an issued, from what Ive heard. If there have been any complaints, ive heard ppl complain about the cord being too short.

Posted by joeh on Jul-14-2003 00:08:

Yeh only bad things are the short cord really (though that could be a plus point really) - it looks a bit wank but that matters not . HD25's are the best!

Posted by sebjr on Jul-14-2003 01:13:

i doubt you'll have any problems with them. they have been around for a long time so any teething problems have long since been sorted.

you get what you pay for!

I've ha my hd25 for 3 years and the only problem is the pads but its easily replaceable. Wish it had a longer cord though. But other than that no other dj headphones come close!

Not even the HDJ-1000? Cuz I'm gonna buy a new headphone and I was gonna go for the HDJ-1000 because everybody says they are the best you can get (I can get them for 120 while I've seen them priced at 200+ )

The Pioneers look cool - so get them or the Sony's if you would rather have cool looking headphones than ones with excellent sound quality, isolation, and build quality.

Even if the HD25's break (which is very unlikely) - then the really great thing is that they are in 6 parts, and if one of the parts is broken or damaged you can just replace it yourself with a new one, and the spares are easy to get hold of and not too pricey.

Posted by sebjr on Jul-14-2003 20:41:

i have the hdj1000, they are good phones, but its taken 4 weekes to get them working properly

get the hd25s and save yourself hassle, and get peace of mind!

Posted by JohnObir on Jul-14-2003 21:59:

i love sony mdr 700's! but they ALWAYS break within a year for me.. my 3rd set has just cracked, i moved onto pioneer hdj-1000 for abit, but again within a year a fault with the volume.. so now i am with hd25's, heard great things about them, will see if they last longer than a year!
