Swamper, or any other sysadmin:

What sort of system is the TA forums running on?

Just wandering what CPU, OS and of course amount of RAM used

I would assume only scsi drives?

Are you backing up the TA forum database often?

i assume it's run on one of those mega computers webspaceproviders have, where you can rent webspace....

so not your ordinary home-pc...

they are being run using the vbulletin forum software, theres a link to it at the bottom of every page

as to os i would asume its either windows NT or linux, typically a dedicated server.

I did see somewhere they are currently using IDE drives, scsi is alot more expensive

I would suggest you checkout the bbulletin homepage for more info

DELL Dual Intel 2.1Ghz Xeon
1 GB Ram
2 x 73GB SCSI (10,000 RPM)
(1 drive for database only)
MySql 4.0.13 with query caching
PHP 4.3.0 + PHP Accelerator
Redhat Linux 7.3

....and yea I backup enough

will the forums be geting the vbulletin 3.0 treatment when its released, its in beta atm

Posted by Swamper on Jun-23-2003 16:28:

It may.. it may not... I have too many hacks installed and small customizations I've made that would take forever to transfer to vB 3.0 just because of the way things are structured differently...

Besides, it's guaranteed that the first couple of releases of it are gonna be buggered to no end...Obviously I'll test it out on its own first but it's not high on the priority list thats for sure
