Hosting and Relay Server (for the ladder)
I've been talking with swamper, and I let him know that we could benefit from some sort of common storage for the TA DJ ladder. Here is what is available:
Space: 500 MB
Bandwidth: 25 GB / month
Web Space: N/A
Cost: $10 USD / month
OR
Space: 500 MB
Bandwidth: 35 GB / month
Web Space: 50 MB
Cost: $15 USD / month
Other deals may be possible, we just have to figure out what we want.
I know that kaos has already provided an FTP server, but this solution would be better in the long term for us, as eventually the FTP will fill up, we will need more bandwidth requirements etc. I also thought it would be cool to have a relay server, so a DJ could stream to it, and then that could be rebroadcast out on higher bandwidth. I'm not sure how many listeners we need...
Currently, we are having one judge at a time, but we'd like to have 5. and there are 20 competitors, i'm sure they might like to be in on the listening too, as well as regular TAs, we could make it a regular event. so maybe 25 to 40 listeners max, at 128kb/sec, would be what 640k of bandwidth i think?
Also, the advanced pacakage allows "webspace" and supports:
Apache / PHP / Perl / Mysql4
Email / Forwards / Mailing Lists
Maybe sometime in the future it might be nice to set up the TA ladder in that space. We are currently using a 3rd party solution for that, casesladder, it's OK, but it's full of adds, and poorly designed. We'd rather have a custom solution of our own. A few people have volunteered to help build it, and i think it would be pretty neat.
Also, i know that i am currently looking for a good webhost, mine expires in a few weeks, and this is a good deal. I believe flesch is looking for space as well.. might be a way to save us all some money.
So, what we need to decide is, who will contribute, and do we need this?
Hey mate,
Just wanted to let you know at www.globat.com you can get a package with 1gb/50gb for $90 annual ($7.50/month). If paid annually you don't have to pay a setup fee, but if paid by month there is a $30 or $50 fee, too lazy to check atm.

170 gigs free? i assume you meant Mb? if you meant Gb, that's tons of space! we don't need any more than that for sure. can your server stream?

wow, 170Gb, that's an assload of storage.
by my calculations we could store over 5000 half hour mixes at 128kbps on there.
that should do for a while eh?
as for streaming, do you know someone who can relay? if you can set it up for the ladder that would be great.
