Best classical instrument to add to a song?

my vote: piano

I think some well placed Cello or String Bass sounds can do a lot for a song.

you would be suprised how manny songs have slap bass or bass string instruments in the backdrop, Pianos guitars and bass strings all go nicely.

I think some one needs to expiriment with a harp, i bet that could be some wicked toonage

Piano and any strings can add so much to a song.

Although i'd love to hear a trance song with a clarinet featured somewhere.

piano or violin both can add soooooo much to a track

Posted by TRANCDS234 on Jun-24-2003 08:21:

LOL a clarinet that will make it sound really cool I still haven't seen a song use it

Posted by Phorte on Jun-24-2003 08:25:

hands down: strings..

i use strings in almost all my songs.. sometimes subtle additional sound, sometimes as main lead.. regardless of genre.

I agree, piano or violin are my favourite.

yeah, piano or guitar.

Piano is nice, but I think its one of the more commonly used ones.

The cello is also a good instrument, like in Gouryella - Gouryella, nice deep and rich sound....

Errrr. Piano gets my vote, but that's the most used classical instrument. I used to play clarinet, though I don't know how that would sound in a trance/prog song.

Piano and strings....
Without them the track is not complete...IMO

Posted by jax_au on Jun-24-2003 14:19:

Tuba

Posted by jax_au on Jun-24-2003 14:22:

Although seriously,

I love songs with piano in them

Strings sound cool in a trance song; actually, any sample from a classical tune sounds good (think 'Barbers Adaigo For Strings (Ferry Remix').

But the best sounding non-electronic instrument i've heard is the acoustic guitar in 'Dumonde - Human'. I'm not a great fan of any guitar music but that tune's very unique IMO

Posted by Robert on Jun-24-2003 17:18:

just curios to know since when 'strings' is an instrument. the strings everyone means is (usually) a combination of a violin, a viola, a cello and double bass.

antyway, just me being pedantic again.

Gabriel & Dresden's usage of guitars in both 'Beautiful Things' and 'Make Me' made guitars grab a spot on my list. Also, the sound Tisto uses in his remix of 'Did I Dream'... grrrraur!

I defy anyone to tell me that Swamp Thing isn't the greatest track ever.
