How in the hell do I stop the MSN popup alerts from coming??? I need my winXP firewall down, so that's not a solution. I know it's gotta be something with the registry...plz help!!

Do you mean popups like new Hotmail email alerts from Windows Messenger? If that's the case, then you'd need to look in the options menu of Windows Messenger and disable the alerts.

However, you probably mean the "Messenger Service" popup windows which usually advertise some kind of spam (dating services, money making scams etc). If that's your problem, then you have to disable the "Messenger service" (which is NOT Windows Messenger). See http://www.computing.net/windows200...orum/41057.html for details. I disabled the service a couple of days ago as the popups were annoying me (I have XP pro BTW).

yeah disable the messenger service, its only real use is within a networking enviroment where admins can message all users at once sayin "so and so server closing in 5 mins" etc for the home user it isnt needed.

To turn off the Messenger service in Windows XP, 2000 or NT:

Right-click the My Computer icon and select Manage. The Computer Management window opens.

Double-click Services and Applications to expand its sub menu. In the sub menu double-click on Services. The list of services appears in the right frame of the window.

Scroll down the list of services to Messenger.

Double-click Messenger. The Messenger Properties window appears.

Select Stop to stop the service and change the startup type to Disable.

Click OK to close Messenger Properties; then click the X in the top right-hand corner of the Computer Management window to close it.
