Tiga + Richie Hawtin @ Mile End July 1st !

Posted by rongerabbit on Jun-27-2003 17:47:

Probably two of the most known Canadian Djs.

Tiga is known for his electro sounds, and is very popular in Montreal since he created Sona, and played at Aria not very long ago.

Richie Hawtin on the other hand, is very well known for his techno, and he comes from Ontario. He played at Mutek this year.

The two combined will make an awesome night !

And no, I'm not promoting the event !

did they mispell Ritchie? I think Max Graham and Mistress B are bigger but that's my opinion. Actually I think Mistress is the biggest in Canada.

its Richie.

if you look on the global scene Richie is leap years ahead of anyone else Canada, and 98% of other DJs in the world.. + how dare you compare misstress (yes *you* mispelt that) to richie, there is NO comparaison between the two.. richie is an innovator, barbara is a follower (just like all other techno DJs out there, (esp Ben Sims))

i'm going to try and score some tickets for this

I'm not talking about them personally as Dj's, I'm talking popularity, which was what the original question was, personally I really don't give a flying fuck about any of the dj's mentioned in this thread, I'm just saying she makes it as a headliner in some pretty big events across Europe because she is very popular that's all!

Posted by malek on Jun-27-2003 19:27:

well there's a difference between Misstress Barbara and Tiga/Hawtin primarly because Miss B is known for her DJing while Tiga and Hawtin for their production... and if you accept that fact you should also accept that both groups can't be compared because some djs/artist are popular amongst other djs for their productions (Tiga, Hawtin) and some other djs are popular amongst the crowds like Misstress Barbara...

erm.. actually miss b can not be compared to hawtins on dj skillz. he's just crazy. he might also not be well known cause he plays very obscure stuff. kinda like miss b, before she started playing the well known techno she plays this days.

misstress iirc has always played banging house/techno music... its just as obscure now as it was then!.. actually all i remember from back in say 1999 was that i didn't care what was playing but i *really* was able to dance my ass off!

.. for Richie it depends on when you catch him, he can be disgustingly hard like he was last summer at Sona, or very minimal like he was at Mutek...

if any of you are NOT familiar with his style, i suggest you check out his "montreal mix" that he posted on his website.. its a very proper mix, roughly 3hrs long and spans all kinds of styles

http://www.m-nus.com/index_from_alphabet.html

look under downloads and mp3 (its a flash site)

i wish i knew when it was recorded, i'm guessing its about 1-2yrs old and was probably recorded at Sona.

Acquaviva meh. yea i guess i forgot about him.. he's huge in many parts of Europe (especially Spain) and he definatly knows how to throw it down!. What's great about him is that he's not a sell out, he's stuck to his owb brand of house music, since the beginning.. he's 'new' goldclub album is proof of that.

Montreals really used to dig his stuff, but it doesnt seem that he has the same momentum going for him in north america anymore (blame trance i guess)

thx to Zing for closing the debate...
Preach does rule those Djs imo, his tracks are just unbelivable and he spins like a master always on 3 turntables....

Posted by Sadmafioso on Jun-28-2003 21:41:

i do agree that preach is way better than misstress and plenty of other canadian djs ( spcialement pour ses tune MALADES ). BUT i think that what was tried to be said is that Hawtin is an innovator WICH IS FUCKING TRUE!!
and innovation means : sometimes its good, sometimes its bad.
thats how it goes when you try something new...
