Tall Paul Review @ The Church
Saw Tall Paul last night @ The Church... umm... intersting night. Hadn't seen Tall Paul before, wasn't sure what to expect. Was hoping to hear a lot of trance, got some of it. He played a variety of stuff, the opening DJ played nothing but house and some tek-house, pretty dull IMO. Tall Paul opened with some more tek-house and some tribal house, then he went into some trance finally. He played maybe 2 hours... kinda lame, but heard some good tunes and some cheesy tunes as well. It was an okay night, not bad for $10 I suppose. What I remember:
Motorcycle - As The Rush Comes
Paul van Dyk feat. Hemstock & Jennings - Nothing But You (PvD Club Mix)
System F - Spaceman (Original Mix) <-- Owns me!
Green Velvet - La La Land (Some Trance-ish remix) <-- Song effing sucks!
Underworld - Born Slippy (Some Remix I haven't heard) <-- Not 100% sure on this one, I've only heard the song once or twice
The guy can mix decently and he certainly is tall, heh. Just wish he would have played more trance, and more specfically iio - At The End (Scumfrog Remix) as this is listed in his recent playlists... but oh well, just wishful thinking. Heard some pretty decent tunes that were okay, especially this one proggy trance song, that came on... I think right before the Green Velvet song... really nicely done. Reminded me of the first time I'd ever heard Midtone - Pearl live
saw him twice... he plays kinda cheese IMO
Finally, someone who likes Spaceman besides me! The synth owns, but the vocals are pretty bad imo...so I always play the Matti remix.
But yeah, he plays pretty diverse sets, which I don't really care for, and usually he seems to be so coked out of his head his mixing ain't that great either...
*Disclaimer I'm wrecked right now*
Anyways I guess it was cool to roll to this party however you should go to either shasha or cox, or both if you could. Furthermore, if you have never seen Christopher Lawrence before I highly recommend seeing him, he's an excellent dj, w/ awesome track selection abilities. . . . anyways im wrecked peace it kids. . . .
rudeboy69:
Yeah, he did play some cheesy stuff, but oh well.
Pagoda:
Hell yeah, I love Spaceman, song rules, but yeah, the vocals are kinda.... lame. Don't do much for the song, heh.
Mind:
I've already seen Sasha once (and next week it'll be 21+, can't even go) and he didn't do anything for me. I've never been a fan of Coxy just cause I can't get into the harder stuff, it's just not my style.

So neither you or Ant are going to see Carl Cox? Fuck, I gotta find someone to go with then...cripes! Seeing as how I most likely won't be able to hit Sasha, I need to go to one of 'em. Definitely hitting up Lawrence with you guys though.

Mind:
The track didn't get id'd http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...threadid=113793 someone thought it was Coast 2 Coast - Searching, but I don't think so... doesn't sound like it for some reason. Either that or another remix I've never heard.

Last night at the Seattle show, Paul played all those songs mentioned and more... he did a 2.5 hour set...
other songs he played:
Benni Bennasi's "Satisfaction"...
some remix of a Blondie song that i still cant get out of my head, hella cool sounding...
played "Heaven Scent", yeah, kinda old, but it matched perfectly with the set...
two other older songs he played were Matt Darey's "Liberation", and Da Hool's "Meet Her at the Love Parade", guessing he played that since its Love Parade month...
he ended his set with a remix of a Nirvana song, but im guessing that he only did that for us...
for those who were expecting more trance, remember, he's NOT a trance DJ, never was, never will be... he's a club DJ, plays a good blend of house, trance, progressive, and techno... jealous that Turnmills gets to hear his stuff everyweek...
Damn that's an old tl.
The only reason he consistently plays Turnmills is because it's his daddy's club. A great club like that can do better than coke out of his mind nepatism, I mean there's a ton of dj's with better technical skills then him, that play better, not to mention newer, which is important when you're constantly on the club circuit, tunes. He's like the british Dave Aude, and I really don't care for either of their styles. Quite frankly I'm not sure how they became such big name dj's, but that's just my opinion. I don't really like party dj's who play shit tunes just to get reactions-
