Need your opinions on the Bowflex
Sup guys, I'm thinking of buying the Bowflex. Just wondering what you all think. If anyone from here has it, what is your opinion of it?
I'm in definate need of a workout. I used to go to gyms quite a bit but got real lazy when I started working full time and going to school. Now I got lots of time and I'm looking for a home gym. If you have it at home or have used it before please tell me what you think. Thanks in advance!
btw here's the link to their official site.

bowflex is good for like toning and muscle burn but iw oudlnt advise trying to bodybuild or anything like that...but it all depends what kind of results you are working for. personally i don't think you can equal the results you would get with free weights but its all personal preference i guess. i know a couple people that have had great results from the bowflex.
Just remember, the guys and gals on the ads, they're already on steroids and do other weights for years. They just get called in to pretend the bowflex was what did it for them. Fake.
Just don't expect results like that just from some stupid beam that can flex...
Bow Flex is garbage. If your serious about working out you should go to a gym. Old fashioned weight lifting and mad cardio is what works.
Dont waist your money

thanks for the help guys.
What I really want to do is add some body mass. I'm pretty skinny and I noticed when I went to the gym religiously before I added a lot of weight and muscle and got ripped really fast. I was pretty impressed with the results.
However after I started working fulltime I got super lazy about going to the gym and kept paying my membership for 2 straight years without ever hitting the gym once.
So now I'm seriously looking for a home gym. I'll start checking out some fitness stores and see what I can find. Thanks for the great help.
bowflex takes the large bulky muscle mass you already have and tones it, if you want to build muscle you need something where you arent using 90% of your strength keeping the damn handles straight
yay
i own a bowflex and i work out with everyday... i also go to a gym everyday and workout there.... personally i think both are great and both have their disadvantages and advantages... if you need motivation go to the gym... if your a professional and you've been going to the gym for years and you can do it by yourself without any help you know how to operate every equipment and know how everything works... get yourself a bowflex ^_^

I've been weightlifting for over 3 years now and have noticed that no matter how dedicated you are, you still need to eat properly in order to achieve anything. By eating properly I mean eat lots of protein (or use protein powder), otherwise you'll never see the results you expect.
Remember intensity + dedication = results
Don't forget vitamins too with lots of protein. You can take flintstone vitamins if you want. lol. j/k
I don't think the bowflex is that bad, but it is sure expensive as hell to buy. I have never used it but a guy I know has one and said it works for him. If you want to save money when you buy the bowflex, you can buy them used. That was what my friend did. He bought the bowflex off some lazy bum who lost dedication and decided to sell it. Got it real cheap and was barely used because the original owner was lazy.
I have never used the bowflex, so I can't really say if it's good or not. What I can say is that freeweights are usually better than any machine because you achieve a much more fluid and extended range of motion. This range of motion helps to stimulate more muscle fibers, and gives you better results.
If a machine gym is your only option (if you wont have anyone spotting you at home etc) than I recommend that it has enough weight/resistance for you to really push your muscles. The more weight the better. It should also let you work on the different major muscle groups (chest, biceps + triceps, back + shoulders + traps, abs, and legs). If it only allows you to work out two or three of these muscle groups, I wouldnt recommend using it.
Some people have also commented on 'toning' muscle, as apposed to building mass. There is no such thing as toning muscle. When you stimulate your muscles with maximum overload (not muscle fatigue) your muscles will grow in mass. When you stimulate your muscle with high reps and low weight, you will fatigue your muscle (as apposed to overloading it) and you will not see as much results in muscle size. Muscles will never get toned, they will never change their shape or form, and will never get more pronounced unless they are increasing in mass (or the fat tissue above the muscle decreases, emphasizing the muscle's contour).
Buying a huge machine won't help you
I think your problem is just not working out daily. You said yourself that you used to go to the gym but got lazy after working full time. I think that is your major problem not a machine. You need to get serious about working out but ppl think that buying the big and best equipment will do. Running 2 miles 4 times a week and doing situps and pushups and getting some barbells to lift for the arms should do you good. I considered getting bowflex then realized I have a home gym here and i started to use it again and I'm running again. I feel great and remember working out means nothing without proper diet.
there a lot u can do with just a set of "dumbells" (im not referring to the guys who hang out here)
talk bout motivation!
if you want to put on some body mass, try using cell-tech its worked great for me...or if u ever go to the states pick up a 1-testosterone there(T-Bomb, T-100, Andro Nitrate). if you want good muscle density, change up your workout routine every couple weeks...don't overtrain thou make sure u get at least a one day rest. and the most important thing is to eat as much as you can!
This has nothing do do with the bowflex but I'll post it here anyways since we're talking about the same subject. I'm a skinny guy and I"ve been going to the gym for about a month and a half, I usually go every second day. I"m trying to build up some muscle but I haven't used any protien or anything yet. What exactly does protien do? will it help me build muscle faster? And can you reccomend any good brands of protien to buy, thanks.
taking protein is just like eating a lot of meat or whatever..you need a certain amount in your body to feed your muscles so that your muscles will grow...u can either eat a lot of high protein food, or buy the powder....if you want a meal replacement try APM 60. This has 60 grams of protein which is reallllly good..but i would recomend Nitrotech, but the only real nitrotech that actually has nitrogen in it(so your muscles wont get as sore) is int he united states...u can find it some places in canada but it is a controlled substance. Try Whey Gourmet...they have really good flavours and have a good protein amount. Ideally you want to take the same amount of protein per day as your body weight...so if you weigh 150lbs, try and eat 150 grams of protein per day.. if you do this you will get really good gains fast.
yes i agree with all said mentioned above... now can i see your guys's bodies ????

Cool thanks, I don't really want a meal replacement, is Whey Gourmet one of those? or are all the protien shakes meal replacements?
nah u only want to take a meal replacement if you dont have time to eat..but dont make it a habit real food cant really be replaced...id go with the whey gourmet it is quite yummy

But you also need to ask yourself what type of meal replacement bar you want. High-carb for quick energy or high-protein for losing weight?
man high protein does not make you lose weight haha
With combined exercise it does, because they are general low-carb. Well, the ones I get are.
