Bedroom \ Club Mixing
ok, wanna know here how u guys mix either u home or in the club
i mean if u mixing with both headphones on your ears or only one.
i feel more dificulty to mix with one headphone on my ear in my bedroom [both is not a problem @ all] , but in the club monitor mixing with one headphone on my ear going fine.
is it the same with u guys?
About the same for me. I like to use split cue a lot when i play on a PA system though, which i don't use at home.
I use it stereo to beatmatch the tunes, but, when I bring in the incoming tune, u put it on split and then I only have 1 cup on my ear... kinda strange huh
i go back and forth on that. Sometimes when im mixing I have to take them off and i listen just to the monitor

I wouldn't know about @ the club yet, but at a friend's party, I borrowed some1's equipment and DJ'd... while there I used one can at a time, unless it was 2 tough to beatmatch.
At home digital mixing, I use both always.
Can't wait till I get my TTs and mixer in the mail to reply about that.
At home I use one ear withthe track im cueing up playing and then listen to the song playing out loud. In a club it varies because it depends on weather there are monitoring speakers or not. IF there are, i will do the same thing. If there aren't i will keep the headphones on both ears and mix taht way.
Whats the way that most of the pros do it? (ie: whats the best way?)

I always keep both cups firmly on.. feel in total control then as i'm more likely to pick up a small slip quicker or towards the end of a mix with both my ears still alert.
Also strange i know, as nearly all the DJs i know and have seen always flick to one ear at some point.
at home and in the club i have beatmatched w/ about 50/50 for e/ channel in the phones. then when i want to intro the next track i only use one ear and the hp cue is turned all the way to the upcoming track.
i've seen pvd use both cups..everyone just has a different style
although i have heard that in a club w/ a loud pa system it's easier to beatmatch w/ one ear. i used to do that a long time ago, haha, but now i think it would be hard to go back to..
At home - headphones on until I'm almost through the whole mix..
at the club/party... barely use the headphones at all..one ear on till it's matched then don't really use it during the actual mix.
I use both headphone cups when mixing, although I've only mixed at home. I cue it up in the headphones and make sure everything is in line, then slide both cups behind my ears and use the main speakers to do the transition. I can grab one or both earcups back onto my ear rather quickly to check how it sounds at 50/50. If I need to match a pitch adjustment I can do it in the headphones right away without it being too audible in the main mix. I also only use stereo cue, I couldn't get used to split cue.
I guess it depends on the mixer you're using. If it has cue/program levels rotary so you can choose exactly home much cue and how much output you need to hear.
i use 2 ears on the headphones at home, its easier cos i dont have good monitoring speakers to hear it properly so i use the headphones which works best.
but club 1 ear
that is because i find it easier to mix with one ear (as said above) you have monitors speakers pumping on one ear and one on the headphones then you beatmatch in your head like always.
you dont need two on it both ears.
but sometimes i put it on to check if everything AOK!
cheers

i need good cues..... djing on mixers without prefade
wen mixing now i always use one cup, wen i first started mixing i would use 2 cups with a split cue, and found it difficult to mix with one cup. now its the opposite, i never use the splkit cue at all and find it harder to concentrate wen its on.
this bloke told me before never to put both cups on if ur in a club because your incharge of the sound, and should anything go wrong with the live sound in the room n ur boping away with 2 cups firmly on not having a clue about it ull luk kinda daft, cos your responsible for the live sound in the room/club, and if anything should go wrong its your job to put it right.
it all depends on what im spinning like...if im spinning Trance then i will leave both fones on my ears and have a slpit cue but if im spinning Breakz then i will only leave one cup on and have both tunes in one cup
its just easyer that way for me... i do this at both partys and at home
