Will trance ever replace hip-hop?
I listen to nothing but when I'm by myself, but when I'm with friends, it's all hip hop. Not too many peeps around here are into trance like we are I guess. So anyway, my question is, do you think trance will ever replace rap/hip hop in the US and other commercialized countries?
not in north america.
U dont want trance to take over hip hop...then you'll get p. diddy getting into electronic music
....oh wait!...that has already happened
......but seriously i dont think trance will ever get as big ass hip hop in the states.

no
cuz hiphop sucks.
How can a completely different genre take the place of another...?
Accept it for what it is.. they each have their own cultural tie-ins with hip-hop FAR exceeding trance in that area...
You're not going to see a bunch of teens who think they're thugs walking around listening to pvd
(now don't go ranting on me saying I think all ppl who listen to hiphop are thugs...thats not true.. but any music that has lyrical content that helps one vent against society/the state of the world is embraced by rebellious youth (a-la punk/heavy metal/rock of old))
you becoming a philospher swamper?
I don't want it to get bigger than hip-hop here in the states because then it won't be my music. I love being able to play something that nobody else is playing and that is pretty much unique. If trance replaces hip-hop then every thug who was sporting baggy pants and 50 cent shirts will be wearing Paul Van Dyk shirts and you won't be able to find people 'in da club' but 'in Ibiza, raving', and that will eventually lead to trance becoming too mainstream to the point where it sucks.
i agree
i agree with mto.... playing the stuff i play and getting people into it is part of the experience.... if everyone likes it and know all the tunes... then us Tranceaddicts wont be the special group of people who we are... we'd just be part of the rest of the herd.... heheheh... i like feeling special and being in a minority.. especial when the minoriy is the best at what they do ^_^ music... cuz trance muzic is L33T! ^_^
SAN JOSE HERE TOO!
anyways yeah i'm the same way too....nothin but trance when i'm at home or on the road by myself but with friends its usually hip-hop. i've gotten some of my friends to start listening to it more since i burned them some cd's. But no i dont think trance will ever replace hip-hop...
you mainstream whores...

NO AND LEAVE IT THAT WAY.
The last thing I want is seeing the raping of trance just so that a couple good looking 20 somethings can cash in and give trance a bad name. It's already begun with the cheesey DJ's, please don't let it go mainstream.

Hey man i know exactly how you feel...
Thats just the way it is here, all the kids are hypnotized by what they see on TV. I.E. Hip-hop, Rap
Kids here are so into pop-culture and being cool they wouldnt even give it a chance. Maybe some day it will happen but not in North America.
P.S.- Ive gotten a lot of my friends into electronic music
But maybe its because I live in miami
Again, another hip hop thread and again, more nonsense replies.

)Hip hop has it's sub-culture groups as well...taggers, breakers, DJs, MCs...so just because we like trance, and represent a small group of people doesn't make us any better, or unique. We just happen to like a musical genre that some people don't.
Trance has to reinvent itself, or to outdo itself to beat hip hop. Right now, I dont think Trance can be THAT popular.
Like it was mentionned earlier in the thread, "It's already begun with the cheesey DJ's, please don't let it go mainstream" I mean, its unbearable to see 16 yr old kids thinking they are cool because they are listening to "trance" (sylver - turn the tide / darude - sandstorm...) and putting the volume so high in his car that he dont actually need an engine to move his car.

is the fact whenever someone hears me play trance, they automatically come up with the assumption that all of electronica sounds the same. Geeze i swear, if they would give it the time of day, they would notice that most of teh same sounds that come outa trance are the same sounds comming out of their hip/hop-punk musica. There would be no clubs if it wasnt' for electronica or dance. because there would be to many gang fights and deaths and all of them would close down.
I hope trance stays the way it is and i hope hip hop doesnt grow bigger than it already friggen is.
Actually, i wish all electronica would be less mainstream.

yeah im happy with the way electronic music is represented in north america. its not mainstream, but if it was we'd all be teeny bopper clubbers/ravers for following the "trend". and who would want that? haha im perfectly content with being the only person on my block who blasts Trance/Hardcore/Jungle/House/ and Breaks outside my windows. does that make me cooler than everyone else who listens to other forms of music? definately not. but its sorta like drugs: isnt it soo much more fun to do while its illegal? lol
