Tiesto's set was alright, I REALLY dig Markus Schulz's though.

r u serious?

Tracklist was great, a little different than the usual Tiesto style but mixing was pretty bad...........one of the worst "mix" i've heard from Tiesto

Posted by Yan on Jul-08-2003 05:22:

Seriously...Tiesto did a bad job mixing that night. Markus did an awesome job though. The stupid freaking horns were killing me that night (Not only the usual horns at Space...but the train horns...JEEZUS).

Posted by Creamfields23 on Jul-08-2003 05:47:

Confused

I Thought REDMAN was mixing this night!
BLOW YOUR MOTHER***** HORN!!!!

AGHHHHHHHHHH TERRIBLE

well I ain't a DJ but IMO I thought the mixing was flawless...correct me if I am wrong. Where is the mess up or bad transition?

As for Markus, he was awesome too. His sets definitely up there with Tiesto.

I will correct u. His mixing was more gash than usual. Even the Tiesto fans will agree with me here (unless they truley are deluded). Award for the shittest transition of the set goes to: Mark Lowndes - There Is No Other Love into Rank 1 - Breathing (Airwave 2003) (Breaks Dub)

Werd.

The more I learn about mixing and judging it, the more Tiesto's mixes suck

On the other hand, Armin just keeps sounding better and better with every listen.

Flawless mixing = Sander Kleinenberg, Danny Howells, and Sasha... and PVD, AVB, and Ferry Corsten for trance.

Hahah. If you want to hear him mix well, listen to ISOS3, or summerbreeze, or magik 6, or tiesto in concert. toothless

Mikey upload a mix of yours.

sure. u hav some webspace for me?

Cool

lol i would say none of the big name trance djs ever consistently are good.

tiesto is shit 99% of the time, to the guy who said listen to them studio albums + magik 6 they will have all been rehearsed many many times + his last mix is off cue on summerbreeze. his mix was also gash @ tietso in concert

armin seems only to be able to have the ability to beatmatch to within 1-2% of what it needs to be rather than spot on

don't get me started on pvd

and ferry fucks up every time he touches a cd

we listen to them for their tunes, if anybody listens to them for their mixin they need to think about getting new ears lol

must agree with luke here, i used to think tiesto and pvd were amazing wen i first got into the scene, i still very mucch enjoy there sets but its vary rare either of them make a perfect transsition. and for the money they get paid they should be mixing flawlessly always without having to think.

Maybe I was eluded by the great tracks selections he has. Anybody know a flawless set mix by Tiesto?

Posted by JohnSmith on Jul-08-2003 16:44:

Magick 6 is pretty damn flawless.

I agree with what luke said, we listen to these guys for their tunes, not their mixing.

i saw AVB this weekend, and he played wicked tracks, but the mixing was not too good. it wasn't BAD like tiesto sometimes is, but what he would usually do would be to only mix for like 8 beats each transition, and for that you only have to be "pretty close" on the transitions. his songs went so well together you could hardly tell there was a mix sometimes though, he timed it perfectly and got the EQ and volumes good too. It also helped that it was a pounding soundsystem which covers little errors nicely.

Magik 6 was cleaned up and all errors were fixed before it was sent out to the public.. plus like luke said, Tiesto went into that set fully knowing what he was gonna play, and fully prepared to how he was gonna piece them together.

tbh everyime i see Armin i am becoming more and more impressed. i hav seen him 6 times this year, and i love his style of mixing. I hav noticed that he seems to start bringing the incoming track in bout 64 beats before most DJ's do (ie. during the breakdown) so that as soon as the track goes into the intro, he wallops the bass over and fades out. This has the advantage of keeping the pace going, and apart from PvD and Eddie Halliwell, he is the best DJ i can think of at keeping the pace going like this. The only downside is that he doesnt play energetic tunes that are to my taste, but nevertheless i shall continue to go see him coz i think he is great! Bring on Armin Solo 17th July!

really? you sure it was cleaned up? How would you do that exactly even? especially with the crowd noise mixed in, and the echo in the room etc, i don't think it would be possible to "fix" a fucked mix.

if it is, let me know how, i have a bunch that are fucked!

I always thought that most of the magicks were made in studio with protools, or maybe cleaned, but that Magick 6 and 7 were both recorded live, with maybe some compression and EQ added to the whole mix. is this not true? if so, what is your source for this information?

as for practicing and knowing what he was gonna play and how to mix them, i think that is the hallmark of a good DJ. true tiesto has shiite mixing sometimes, but i think Magick 6 is awesome.

Have to really agree with you on that cuz that was the CD that got me into Trance...of course there was summerbreeze and in my memory and a few more along the way.

I think you can clean up some of the hissing, and/or record noise, but I don't know how you'd fix fucked up mixing. We need Dave Dresden to chime in and tell us if it's possible. Anyways, some of the transitions on magik 7 seem a bit awkward to me, but magik 6 and summerbreeze are perfect. Someone mentioned the transition between the last two tracks on summerbreeze, and those are the only ones really that are even a little off.

Tiesto in concert was not shit.

When you are there live, you just have fun and enjoy the tunes. It's different listening to a broadcast or recording.

Posted by JohnSmith on Jul-09-2003 05:12:

yeah, it was mostly a rhetorical question, you CAN'T fix fucked mixes, other than sound quality as you said.
