VBR mp3s

i've always hated VBR mp3s, beacause they screw up my beloved winamp. when you try to fast forward or rewind through the track, it starts over again.

I know they give higher quality, but i've resisted them up till now because of this. I tried this in WMP9 and it worked fine, but i hate WMP.

Is there a way to get this to work in winamp? (and don't say winamp3, wild horses couldn't make me put that steaming hunk of cow dung on my computer)

Ummmmm VBR means variable bitrate, thats all, and runs fine on my version of winamp, always has done. Maybe its just something u have done to yr winamp, like adding mods or something, i just run a basic v2.80

But vbr mp3s should run fine. Sounds a bit weird to me

Runs just FINE on my Winamp 2.91 as well. Maybe the problem lies in something else. Try checking the mp3 encoders' settings.

I know it's not exactly realted, but you may try to convert your VBR mp3s to CBR (normal mp3s. CBR = constant bitrate), or even better, ogg vorbis.

64kbps ogg's are equivalent to 128kbps mp3s sound quality wise.

Of course, you can also try Microsoft's wma, but y'know... Its Microsoft after all.

I hate WMA too. BTW, are there any utils to chop up OGG's?

i'm running winamp 2.81 i think..

strange, this has always happened to me with VBR files, if you try to drag the play head around, it just restarts.

anyway, i can play them fine in WMP, just wondering..

reinstall winamp???

it'd be so cool if oggs were more popular than mp3s, cuz then i'd have less to download but also we could go "dude, i downloaded such an awesome OGG last night" and it'd sound cool like we're on crack cuz oggs are the shiznit.

but the best files extension would probably be .omg

dude, you are hilarious. and omg is NOT the best file extension, it's the worst! it's sonys proprietary OPEN MG files. they should call it closed MG it's fucking useless.

i think a good file extension would be .lol

or for really good files .lmao

sometimes i call files .fuct just for the hell of it.

No! At that time I upgraded to 2.8

Question

to "chop" oggs? sorry, my english fails, there.

If you are talking about cutting them (taking parts and save it on another file), Sonic Foundry SoundForge 6 can do this (it support OGGs for reading AND writing.)

i thought my winamp was stuffed when i played a vbr file cause i didnt know what it was, i just saw the bit rate constantly changing and thought shit im getting rid of this...
