Free VST synths (list,pic,info,link)
After several hours of testing out dozens of free vst synths, i have come up with a list of ones that i feel are either high quality or provide a unique sound.
Here's the list... Enjoy
Free Alpha

Fat and rich-sounding Multimode filter; cutoff and resonance modulation from LFO, Envelope and MIDI. 2 separate ADSFR envelopes for amplitude and cutoff and a additional pitch envelope ; time ranges from super-fast 1 millisecond up to full 10 seconds. LFO with 6 waveforms, variable attack, variable temp sync. Modulation matrix with 4 free assignable slots, 15 sources, 12 destinations. Adjustable Warmth (Precision). Mono & polyphonic portamento/glide with Normal, Held and Auto-Bend mode. Adjustable voice limit down to monophonic. Fully recognised velocity and aftertouch (mono and poly) and several controllers. LinPlug ECS for MIDI-CC assignment. Own Preset Browser works in any VST host. |

Dual Oscillators with Sync and X-Modulation capabilities. Low Pass Filters with Resonance, Envelope, Level, Separation, and Overdrive controls. Fatness control gives you what every synth should have. Tone Controls aid in the creation of rich sounding basses and hot leads. Assignable "Multi-Envelope" can modulate nearly every Phobia Station parameter. Dual Amplitude Envelopes with Mix controls. Numerous Modulation Wheel and Velocity routing options. Dual LFO's - LFO 2 can modulate LFO 1. Hasher, Buzz Mode, and Distort create searing leads and fuzzy bass lines. Unique signal routing produces thousands of sonic possibilities. Built-in Flanger effect.

32 voices. 3 oscillators per voice (Generated using BLITs (Band Limited Impulse Train) which gives oscillators with very low aliasing). Sine, Triangle, Sawtooth and Pulse waveforms. Noise generator. Pulse Width/Slope Modulation. Two LP/BP/HP filters. Two DCAs. Four LFOs with tempo sync. Speed and amplitude modulation of LFOs. Four ADSR envelope generators that can be triggered by Note On, LFOs, Control Change or portamento.

Quantum 64 is a harsh and aliased digital synth with single DCO and multimode filter. It is inspired by Commodore 64's SID sound chip but it definitely is no emulation. The two special ingredients that make the soul of Quantum 64 are the arpeggiator and the degrader/quantiser unit.

2 oscillators with variable waves. An additional sub Osc. Noise generator. Ring, FM & Amplitude modulation and sync. 3 ADSR time/level envelopes (2 assignable) with delays and manual triggering. 2 variable LFOs with sample & hold. Internal clock for BPM synced LFOs. 16 different modulation destinations. 2 filters - one 4-pole lowpass and one 2-pole multimode. Filters can be in parallel or serial mode, among others. There are two versions of Satyr available: normal Satyr that is 4-note polyphonic and Satyr-8 that is 8-note polyphonic.
nice post man, i'll check some these out
Hey, veeery nice info!! Thanx
But i missed Triangle 2 and Synth 1 on this list, they are both very good free plugins, especialy Synth 1, cant even believe this thingie is free!
PS: Theres a Synth 1 and Synth One out there, do not mistake them (Synth One is crap)
Thanks.
There is a free Native Instruments synth released. It sounds great. Click on the link on this page: http://www.synthforum.nl/forums/sho...1421#post181421
that matches your OS.
nice post
u however forgot to mention the other VST synths on the refx.net site
some good ones there
And the winner is .... Synth 1!
so where can i find synth 1????
i think he means the first synth on there "free alpha"
i also found it to be my favourite... very powerful and versatile in IMHO
I think he actually means Synth 1. There's a freeware synth called that way, it's modelled after a Clavia Nordlead 2.

(this one is purely awesome for just about anything)
Crystal
quote:
Crystal is a modular synth featuring both subtractive synthesis and frequency modulation (FM) synthesis. It offers abundant modulation control with over 60 parameters which may be modulated, multi-stage envelopes with graphical editors, extensive tempo sync of envelopes/lfo rates/delay times, built-in effects for chorus/flanging/comb filtering/echoes, and a band splitter for effects processing by frequency band.
THX alot Kewlness....especially for providing screenshots etc.
keep on doin that! really great job
btw: Synth 1 really roxxx...have that one for quite some time now
There is a JP8080 clone released:

Super Wave P8

DOWNLOAD
You're welcome.
Some people are experiencing problems with the Superwavep8. As far as I know they're only Cubase users. It would be nice if someone has a solution for it and posts info about it here. The synth is regulary updated, so it is wise to check the homepage once in a while to see if the updates include a fix for the problem.
You can also keep a eye on the topic about this synth on trance.nu:

thx for the post soundream... as far as the superwave goes, it works fine in fruity like all other vst's. the only thing that doesn't really work is the preset loading menu at the very top as it doesn't show in the fruity wrapper. howerver, fruity has it's own thing that allows you to browse thru all the built in presets, so it really doesn't matter
DUDE ALL you people rock
anything new btw ? *bump*
as mentioned before but not posted yet...
