Borders is fascist

i'm a little annoyed with borders in d.c. (the one near dupont). i went there to use their bathroom to change clothes before work this morning (don't ask), and they wanted me to PAY. that's right, you had to deposit a token that you paid for at the front desk. before y'all point out these two things to me, i'm going to tell you i know already:

1) it's standard practice in europe. i know, and i hate it. i think it's fascist to pay a pound to piss at harrod's.
2) that the payment thing is in place because of people like me, who only want to use the bathroom.

regardless, i don't like it and i don't want to see paying to use the toilet become standard in america.

vote with your dollars. don't buy from there, and make sure to tell the manager you are going elsewhere because of this policy.

unfortunately, i don't have that leverage because i don't actually buy anything there. otherwise i think it's a fantastic idea! if i ever buy something i'll pretend that i'm a regular customer and complain about the bathroom. then i'll storm out in a huff muttering, "that's the last time i buy anything here! paying to use the bathroom, indeed."

Common sense ... barnes and noble has better selection, better atmosphere, and better prices.

B&N rules i went to one in michigan while visiting my mom that was by far the best book store ive ever been too. havent been to a borders yet, not many in my area, and its more convenient to order books online.

that sucks to hear about them charging you though, i really dont know why some places are so anal about letting people use the bathrooms

If you're not a paying customer why the fuck should they let you use their bathroom to change your clothes? They're a business not a public service created for your convenience. Use the bathroom at work

So what exactly are you complaining about then?

yep, i pretty much did. this is just me being bratty and wanting to continue to get away with things that i probably shouldn't be allowed to. bathrooms in america have always been free (the signs saying they're for paying customers only are easily ignored) and i don't want to see that change because i like it.
i started this thread for the sake of ranting, not because i thought some terrible injustice had been committed -- although now that i think about it, why should you have to pay to use a bathroom? when you have to go, you don't have a lot of choice (because not everyone is getting dressed for work in a bathroom ).

I don't expect Borders to give me free food when I'm hungry.

Now if only society's deadbeats satisfied with living off of welfare could adopt such an attitude.

What pun

Have you actually got anything to contribute to the discussion or are you simply once again registering your disapproval at anybody daring to express an opinion that differs from the thread starter's own?
