HELP ME, I lost sound on my comp. speakerr
Hello everybody, I have xp installed with the service pack 1 and yesterday
while listening to a song my audio was lost . It started progressively and
it lasted for about 5 minutes before becoming almost silent but I also must
say that my bass box is still working but if you listen to bass only you
know that it's all garbled garbage. Another thing I must mention is that I
run into a similar problem about a year ago and if I remember correctly I
was missing a driver but I ran windows update then and fixed it. I ran
windows update now but couldn't find anything really. I checked all the
wires and it's looking good. My speakers are Cambridge Soundworks 5.1 DTT
2200. There are 2 speakers and when I put them on my ear I sense that they are working but they just don't have sound right now. I hope you can help me with some suggestions.
I went throgh all windows
troublshooting, checked drivers etc and I went to the microsoft page but couldn't
help it. It's really mind boggling at this point

hmm thats an odd problem. it could very well depend on what program you are using to play the audio. was it winamp or windows media or something else like fruity loops or cubase?
i have a problem with my sound too on my laptop it seems as though my soundcard and winamp specifically don't get along. I will be listening to music then all of a sudden *poof* silence and playback stops and the equalizer bars are frozen at the last position. i later found out on winamp.com that this is a common problem and fixed it with some updated drivers and buffer settings. it may be useful to check the page for the program you lost sound in. unless the sound just doesn't work in any program period, which then I wouldn't be sure where to send ya
check your soundcard page for updates if you haven't done that yet, and best of luck I know how useless the PC is without sound!

Try plugging it into a CD player and see if it's the computer of the speaker itself.

I was thinking my amp went. I've contacted Klipsch on my problem so I'll see what they have to say or do.
Is your wiring OK?

plug a cd player ( or any other audio device) into the input hole and see if anything comes out. OR you dont have a wire to run just plug the whole set into whatever and see if the same thing happens. If it does, most likely its the speakers (klipsch are good so I would hope they are ok) Although if the sound works just fine then its your comp. Try completely removing the drivers for your audio device and reinstalling them. Also make sure you have the speaker settings done correctly (set for 5.1) Make sure there arnt any wires crossed or any bare spots either. If they get crossed down the line strange things happen.

I have also, but it was lightning....
Talking about the wires leading to the speakers. If the shilding got damaged and the wires touch it can make the bass sound like ass and no other sound should come out. I have the 4.1 so not sure how the hook up is on yours. The wires are all conected to the back of my sub. You can try unpluging all of the speakers and hooking them back up one at a time and see what happens.
Hey , thanks very much , I checked cables and wires and it works now, so relieved right now
.
. I can't say what was wrong, but I am grateful it's over . God I felt so deprived of music the last 3 days , it's a torture.
Hehe sweet good stuff, glad it working i dont know what id do without my kilpches
Unfortunately, my problem has not been solved. Klipsch got back to me and told me that the problem is a transistor in the amp that has gone bad.
They gave me a number to call and I have to set up an RMA. So that's at least a week without speakers, I'm going to start going through withdrawal soon...
