Advice from all Dj's PLEASE ......
I have 2 technics MKII, Pionner djm500 mixer, and sony headphones. Vinyl is eating up my bank account. I was thinking about purchasing a pioneer cdj1000 digital turntable, and in the long run, only buy vinyl that "had to have" and investing in cds , since there cheaper, and come with a lot more mixes per cd.
WHAT IS UR INPUT ON THIS? I just started dj'ing 1 1/2 years ago, I am not determined to become Paul van Dyk within the next 5 years. But at the same time, I enjoy/love dj'ing, and plan on doing it the rest of my life. Any input would be appreciated....
YES or NO Should I not get the cd turntable?
Stick with vinyl only?
THANKS ALL...

If you have the money, go for it!
Get the Denon S-5000 instead.... Much better than the Pioneer's..... You can play an entire set off 1 of these if you wanted too.
Nothing wrong with CD's... The majority of top dj's use both... Just don't expect to go and download all your music and then go play it out live.... That's a NO-NO!!!
you download the music and i will personaly go and beat yo ass :P , otherwise you ahve my blessin

Man im in the same position as you....i got the exact same setup as well. Ive been spinning for about 5 years now, Over the last couple weeks ive been looking into a cdj-1000. Im actually renting one for a week to try it out first.
Collecting records is one of my favorite parts of DJing. I want a cd deck for all those bastard track i cant get my hands on....and there are a lot of them

LOL... That's too funny. Beatmatching with 2 regular cd players...
Anyhows, Yeah, I LOVE BUYING RECORDS. I LOVE HAVING RECORDS. BUT DAMN! It gets way too expensive, and sometimes its just so much easier to buy cds than a 12", right? I figure I have the money, why not invest in cd digital turntable. I might as well learn how to incorporate vinyl, and cds in my sets right?
So 2 questions....
1) Denon vs Pioneer for Cd turntable ??? Which is better? And why ?
2) Where are good and reliable places to purchase cds??

Why always go for the most expensive around? From what I've seen so far in most setups in clubs it's usually 3 technics ans 2 pioneer cdj100s. So why not get the pioneer instead of the (i admit very sexy and attractive) denon
actually, I think the denon is a pretty ugly machine (sorry...)
Maybe, the CDJ100s is a little to basic to use in clubs... What i've seen so far is indeed 3 sl1200's and 2 CDJ1000s...
I really like the cdj1000s, it feels sooooooo good when you turn that wheel...
I prefer the denon because of the looping and multi track from one cd abilities, it is also cheaper than the 1000's or the new 1000mk2. With my denon's I now have 4 CD players instead of 2. I don't really scratch so the only advantage that the pioneer has (it has better scratching) is ueseless to me...
As for doing a whole set from one player...I was just saying you could do it... not that I would... I guess if you had your it all set up... say 3 or 4 cd's with your songs planned out, you could do...But I haven't actually done it yet... If I get a chance maybe I'll record a mix with just one player to see how it comes out...
As for the pioneer cdj100... it bores me...If I was in the position to add to an existing turntable setup, I would go w/ one denon or one pioneer cdj1000 over 2 cdj100's anyday.
But between the denon and pioneer cdj1000's...u'd take the denon? The only difference is the scratching capabilities?
Thanks for ur input on this, I appreciate it.
That's not the only difference... But that seems to be the biggest pro for the pioneer...(another advantage is the wave display)
But I chose the Denon, beacuse I didn't really need that function. Plus I found the looping, sampling, effects functions on the Denon much more useful. Plus the Denon is software upgradeable as opposed to pioneer. I can play MP3's with my denon also. With the denon, I can play a track, cue the same track and play it again, and sample from the same track all at the same time...
The most important thing was I prefered the feel of the denon. You should go to a store and try them both out...and then decide what feels better for you. They're both great machines and I'm sure you'll be happy with either.

Pssl prices for players
Denon S5000 - $879.00 (I paid $1600 for both of mine from a local store)
Pioneer cdj1000 - $999, with $150.00 rebate = $849.00 (rebate ends july 31st) so I guess the pioneer is a little cheaper sorry...
Pioneer cdj 1000mkII - $1149.00
You can beat match the two tracks, plus the player stores something like 5000 cues... which I'm no where near to filling up yet. You have pitch control over both tracks, so it is fully possible to beatmatch the songs.
What I find it most useful for is mixing the same track with itself.. and "Sampling" from the same track... Why buy a sampler when I can have this do it for me... You could easily record an hour long set with it...(since you wouldn't need to change the cd)
Yes, I need more than start and stop. I like to do more than start a song and then beatmatch and mix to the next song and add a fancy effect. I like to recreate the song while I'm mixing. With two of these there's no end to my creativity..I can play the song, remove unwanted parts seamlessly, hot cue it to 3-4 different parts in the track, etc.... It's more than just a CD player.
I use and love vinyl too... Def. need to get my hands on vinyl during a set too, but to have this extra power is alot of fun...

that was a great post^^^^^^^
a dj is a musician that makes music out of music.
The reason why Pioneer is in every club is because Pioneer supplies these clubs with the CDJ. Denon, on the other hand, makes clubs buy their equipment, they dont give them hand outs - you want the best, pay for it!

well im at school...and i have learned that i can download songs at up to 10mb/s and on the hubs..usually 50-500kb/s so yeah i download lol
and yeah i think the music industry IS going down...its not a "would-be" situation since the RIAA is like suing individuals now
i dont feel bad about downloading becuase everything i download is live sets and singles that i plan to buy on vinyl.
for cdjing however, mp3s have suckass quality. i have tried mixing an mp3 in with a laptop and a desktop with a good soundcard and the quality difference is to noticable.

well as a bedroom dj i focus more on quality. i dont care if other people dont notice. im the dj and i notice.thats all taht matters to me, personally. thats all i was saying..i wasnt saying that someone would be wrong to download music and play mp3s at a club or whatever. i am aware, that everyone has their own opininos and preferences.
plus i dont think pvd fanatic is really talking about buying club equipment. he is talking about something thats going into his bedroom so if mp3 quality is good enough for him...then good for him. but like i said...as a bedroom dj i spin for pleasure and mp3s dont cut it for me.
Yeah, MP3s don't sound all that great, especially 128kbps ones.
BUT, if processed through a nice mixer, outboard EQ etc that a club is likely to have, as well as pounded through 15" subs into drunk peoples ears, they are not likely to notice.
DJ Jade has probably the sweetest setup here, 3 technics and a Xone64, along with high fidelity Klipsch Speakers and Tube amps. Of course he'll be able to hear MP3 quality as opposed to vinyl, but your average club goer won't notice.
Personally, i download too, but i would only spin a CDR "out" if it was burned from at least a 192kbps mp3 (and sounded good) and also if it was IMPOSSIBLE to get the song on vinyl or CD.
but bedroom DJing, it's fun for.
