BT fights piracy
from the deep cave of somethingawful.com:
seems they are in trouble with the release of the new album on their forums/servers

Our office represents Embrace the Future, Inc., and the recording artist professionally known as "BT" in legal matters. Our client owns the registered trademark "BT" and the copyrights in the compositions embodied in the BT Master(s). The sound recording copyrights in the BT Master(s) are owned by Nettwerk Productions, Inc. It has come to our attention that you have made available for digital download via the so-called file share server at the Torrentse.cx website the BT artist album titled "Emotional Technology" and/or individual BT master sound recordings from said album (hereinafter referred to as "the BT Master(s)") without permission (http://www.torrentse.cx/stats.php?i...7e6a00752d72116). We have been advised by Net Sentry, Corp. that the IP in question (xx.x.x.x.x) is allocated to a server owned and operated by your company. The unauthorized exploitation of the BT Master(s) constitutes an intentional infringement of our client's rights under the United States Trademarks Act as well as our client's and Nettwerk Productions' rights under the United States Copyright Act. Moreover, our client now has an actionable claim for damages against you for the substantial loss of income caused by your unauthorized exploitation of our client's property and/or your facilitation of the unauthorized exploitation of our client's property by users of the Torrentse file share server ("Torrentse Members"). You are hereby placed on notice that our client intends to prosecute this matter to the fullest extent permitted by the law unless your unauthorized exploitation of our client's property and/or your facilitation of Torrentse Members' unauthorized and illegal exploitation of the BT trademark and copyrighted material owned by our client and Nettwerk Productions is terminated with immediate effect. In order to resolve this matter, you must immediately agree in writing to cease and desist from any further exploitation of the BT Master(s) or any other sound recordings owned by our client, Nettwork Productions or others in connection with the name BT. If we do not receive your written response by the close of business on Wednesday, July 16, 2003, we will by forced to refer the matter for further legal action. |

The jury is still out for me . . . I don't know how the piracy issue is going to be resolved, but the artist does have a valid concern in the matter . . . but also, we all LOVE file sharing . . !

Maybe he is angry because someone robbed his studio a year+ back, and he doesn't want people stealing his new works right in front of his face?
If I were him, I would do the same thing.

it's not BT..it's the company that owns his album that is going after the punks via legal action. Since they own the rights to his album...they have complete freedom to take ppl to court if laws are broken. One of you complains....go out and buy the albums of the artists you like and support the fucking scene. The scene has too many idiots who just download mp3's and do not go to clubs to see dj's or see liveacts or buy vinyl or cd's...you are the weakest link and should be shot.
BT has an overinflated ego
Bit torrent isn't watched, that's nearly impossible. Torrentse.cx was stupid enough to publish information on current torrents publicly.
Now I'm going to go read the SA thread.

Exactly - this has very little to do with BT, other than it just happened to be his album.

sometimes i feel i was the only one who BOUGHT PVD's Politics of Dancing, even when it was leaked a month before it's official release...
some girl in the MTV scene is releasing her music for free off the internet. I believe the Smashing Pumpkins did this too, only to become international superstars with record selling album "meloncholy and the infinite sadness" (great album btw). Same with Red Hot Chili Peppers latest album. it was for free on their website, every single track. it's not like they are going bankrupt from their whole album being fully released and distributed at their own will
