Chicane (let me down!!)

I got the new Chicane album yesterday and I'll have to say I'm very disappointed! This album was my most anticipated album of the last year or so. IMO it sounds like Nick has tried to make a pop album and not the type of music I have come to know and love from Chicane. This is a very sad day!

these tracks are quality.

in priase of the sun, empires, some might say, locking down, and spirit.

amazing tracks all get a 9/10 from me or above.

I will agree that Empires is a very good song but other then that I'm just not feeling it.

I think the pop comment is completely fair, I don't consider the new album to be a dance album, it's much closer to the work Nick did for Cher than the previous Chicane material.

I don't think there's anything wrong with liking the album, hell, I'm listening to East Side Story right now, but it's hard to deny that it's a much more mainstream sounding release.

I am very disappointed also. Other than 'empires', 'arizona pt. 2', 'spirit' and 'kilometre', album is designed to gain a more mainstream crowd. I think we'll live to hear "east side story" being played on our radio stations. The song is quite catchy IMHO, but not my style. BTW, is that Bryan Adams doing vocals for east side story?? Is cher doing vocals for 'daylight'? Maybe I'm just hearing things, but oh well...

i'm very disappointed in this album. I have been waiting all this time for it to be available and now it has just crushed me. All these songs are the kind of songs that after you listen to them a couple of times, they grow on you. Yet, nothing on this entire album is like the first time you ever heard offshore or autumn tactics. This album is a huge letdown, and in my opinion, is by far, no comparison to any early chicane productions. Sad to say, it's a hunk of cheesy pooh!

Hmm other than the fact that some of the tunes are way too short I am really digging the album. Tracks 1,2,4,7, and 11 are all very nice but they just need extended mixes! A few of the songs have that radio friendly vibe to them but other than that I say its a really good album. Chicane better release some of these tunes as extended mix singles though.

Seriously tho, a few songs on this album are very nice and chilled in the trademark Chicane style .. but on the whole, the album is a bit of a let down ...

Holly crap! I LOVE Chicane, and I've been waiting for this album for the longest time! I HAVN'T heard it YET!!! Now, I'm VERY VERY afraid. IT can't be bad! Its been touch by Chicane! Blessed? NO? Maybe I should't listen to it altogether. I hold Chicane in the highest respects. Damn you reviews!! DAMN YOU!!!

I agree completely with you, that is the only problem I have with this album (If you can consider this a problem).

It seems everyone is stuck in the past, sorry you can't enjoy this great CD!!

I agree with this. What's the point of producing if all your songs sound the same year after year? Sure some songs sound like the could get some radio play, big deal, doesn't mean it's a bad album.

I heard a while back that Chicane was having major problems with his label. He was contracted to do another album but before he did I decided he did not want to do "dance" music anymore. So when he gave his album to the label the execs said WTF?! this does not sound like Chicane and threatened to sue him for breech of contract if he did not make it sound more like the first album.
I am not trying to pretned like this is new (I read this atleast a year ago), but does anyone know if it is true? Is this the album for the label?
Or.... is all the crack finally going to my head?
