Sleepless - Man With No Name - August 8th

At Sleepless weve watched the Trance bandwagon come and go, then come back again. Weve seen parties embrace the sound like it was their own, drop it in favour of the relentless Hard House scene and now they are back offering Trance like it never went away.

For the last 5 years weve put on parties that maintain the true sound of intelligent Trance music. From the more progressive sounds of Praha and Mark Shimmon, the driving tunes from Nigel Dawson, the euphoric and uplifting style of JFK and Space Brothers Steve to the psychedelic edge that Man With No Name and Mark Allen offered. A night of Sleepless trance means a journey of music, a taste of the past and an insight into the future of this wonderful and versatile genre.

Since we started, our parties have maintained a true underground feel. A powerfully energetic party with no attitude or inhibitions thanks to a regular crowd of lovely people. Our decision to hold occasional events rather than the monthly parties has proved to be the right move, we can enjoy occasional madness without it becoming formulaic or boring.

Our next party is exciting for us as we have invited back the incredible Man With No Name to give us a taste of his new album and to throw us back in time with the tunes that shaped the trance scene in its early days. Who can forget Flooressence or Teleport? To make things extra special, this party will also be a residents event, the first time that Tim, Ian and Andy have played together for what seems like a long time. We are also pleased to have Steve Hitch, promoter and DJ at Spangulation and one of my favourite DJs.

SEOne is one of Londons most clubber friendly venues, with great door staff, a fully stocked bar at decent prices, huge air ducts and clean toilets. Well be making sure the sound system is perfect and that there are plenty of lights, lasers and decor to keep your eyes amused as you melt into the music with reckless abandon. Visual Reality are putting in an amazing lightshow, including Diode Pumped Solid State 2.5w laser. Deep Blue is a section of the club that consists of three brick arches. A solid area for bouncing with adjoining bar and seating for those times when the feet decide they need a break.

Email [email protected] to get yourself and friends added to the 10 list, else it'll be a dozen of the queens pounds.

Isnt this still considered spam though???

New users advertising a night???

Cant u add us UKTA to a free guestlist

hehe

Posted by SleeplessAndy on Jul-22-2003 21:32:

Maybe not the free guestlist, but if there's enough of you I'll work out a UKTA discount

Ahh.. sorry about the spam. I asked elsewhere in the forums if it was alright and was reliably informed that if I called it info, I'd be alright...

*bump*

It's on Friday, it's pure trance and it'll be very fine indeed. There must be more than 2 of you that want a concession for this?

Posted by Cru54d3r on Aug-05-2003 19:10:

Hm pure trance? Does that mean sticking to the trance genre or playing only trance tracks .. ie will there be any psy / goa?

Got an address for the club .. the website is a little lacking and I dont live in london and im lazy to check google ..

Edit: 8th august is a bit too soon to plan such a long journey especially in this heatwave currently .. info would be nice for another time tho as I love psy and ur logo title seems to suggest that u play psy in the club?

Well, when I say pure trance, I mean we don't like any of that hard dance nonsense dressed up as trance.

The website is quite new, we will add more.

Yes, there will be some lovely psy. Man With No Name... you must've heard of him?

Posted by Cru54d3r on Aug-05-2003 22:04:

Indeed I have .. lunar cycle is my one of my all time fav tracks .. just I aint that adventorous to jump on a train and travel down south on the friday direct after work to get there on time w/o even any knowledge of any other TAs being there either ..

May I suggest an info section on the site with directions on how to get there .. maybe a multimap link or something pointing it out etc .. and maybe some anti-aliasing on the logo text

Shame you won't make it. I was hoping there'd be a bit of interest on here. I got a few names on concessions since posting it on here and other boards, maybe a few are indeed TAers.

We're a nice bunch though, you'll be welcome to any after parties, I'm sure.

Posted by Cru54d3r on Aug-05-2003 22:31:

Dont get me wrong id really like to go .. its not everyday that u hear of a club bringing in a dj that will play psy/goa music .. just london is a bit far for me .. something id have to have planned out in advance

Gogogo .. you are in London and you've got the perfect opportunity .. maybe we should swap places and you can spend a week or 2 here in Nottingham then you'd know there aint no point in looking as it doesnt exist .. some ppl are so fortunate to live close to decent clubs

There's usually someone handing out flyers for an after party, though there are few trance orientated ones. Most are quite hard, like Milk at 414 and anything at George IV, both in Brixton.

A friend is organising something, come and find me on the night and I'll give you details..

See you there

Last shout to be added to the concession list, I need to compile it by about 3pm. You can add yourself after, it just means you'll be on a scrap of paper, not neatly printed and attached to a clipboard.

It's all about trance and it's all about supporting nights that offer pure Trance.

So how was it?

Wicked

I'll describe the night in more detail tomorrow morning 'cos I'm on the way out now.

Was lovely to meet some new people from various boards, though I'm not sure if Miss Kitty made it. Quite hectic trying to keep up with who's who.

Okey.

We haven't used SE1 for Sleepless before, but I know the venue well and was looking forward to filling Deep Blue with Trance, lovely decor and some wicked lights and lasers. I arrived at about 5 to watch it all take shape We used a guy who does Dragonfly parties decor and Visual Reality for the lighting. V.R do such a professional job, if any of you need help with production, these guys are the best. We've been using them for years and love their work.

I was playing b2b from 10 - 1 (listing below) so I had some time to relax and watch the place fill up, whilst also chucking tunes on and having a bounce. Really enjoyed playing and was very pleased with the way everything looked, massive fluoro backdrops around the bar with a spiders web across the ceiling hung with big vines and flowers.

Me and Steve handed over the decks to Tim Seddon, co-promoter and a seriously versatile and underrated DJ. He finished the last party with a powerfully uplifting psy set, this time he played darker and tougher, but not too hard. Just perfect. Juno Reactor, Space Buddha, Crazy Malamute to name a few..

Martin (MWNN) followed and took the pace down a perfect notch or two, with a progressive psy start keeping the attention of most people, but allowing some to drift off to calmer parts. All the while, bubbles were floating through the air as lasers cut through them. He took it faster with classics like Posessed and Floor Essence, drawing the interest firmly back to the dancefloor and away from the comfy sofas in the chill out arch that sheltered a few wobbly people. A well received set from one of my heros and a hugely talented producer.

Ian Betts took the controls for the last 90 minutes. Pretty much everyone was waving their hands wildly, whooping, bouncing and grinning. He's been co-promoter and resident for 5 years, in which time he's become the best known London trance DJ, with a devoted crowd and a natural talent for whipping a club into a frenzy for the last set of the night.

The crowd were super-friendly warm bouncy and sometimes drunk. Lovely.

I'll post a link to the photos when they are up...

Next time, it would be great to get some TA people along. I'll sort a special list with a nice price.

5th Birthday will be in December I think, I'll post details soon.

I played..

DJs Rule Get into the music (Distinctive)
Heliotropic Walk with me [Mix no.1] (Skyway)
Morph Homespace (Off the hook)
Tilt Children [Tilts Courtyard Mix] (deconstruction)
Origin Wide Eyed Angel [exposed mix] (Steel Yard)
Bedrock Heaven Scent [Evolution Main Mix] (Bedrock)
Alien Factory Tracer [Extended Mix] (Time Unlimited)
Legend B Lost in Love [Starecase Mix] (Rising High)
DJ Jan X-Santo [V.O.O.D.I Mix] (southeast)
Hydro Utopia (White)
Osiris East to West [Original] (Rhythm Syndicate)
Signum feat Scott Mac coming on Strong [Hyperlogic mix] (Sidewalk)
Jahn Johnston Calling Your Name [Kansai mix] (Platipus)
Stefano Libelle fifty-one (Planetary Consciousness)

Probably a little more detail than expected..

The next party will be our 5th Birthday celebrations, likely to be on Friday 28th November and held at SE1 again. Not sure what the full line-up will be, but I think we'll probably go for Mark Allen again. We had him in April and he was simply mindblowing, both selection of tunes and smooth mixing, all chunky funky psy edged stuff that's perfect for 2-4am. Special effort on decor on lighting, probably some surprises 'cos it's our birthday...

There will also be a second room too, the music policy being strictly breakbeat. In there it looks like we'll have some of the Chew the Fat DJs and hopefully someone very special, to be confirmed soon. I love breaks, I don't know many people that don't, and we think it'll compliment the trance nicely.

I'll have full confirmed details over the next week. Thanks for the interest, you know it makes sense

Breakbeat compliments trance nicely?

Will have to see closer to the date with uni and what not whether ill go along .. might be more persuaded if I can meet up with other TAs tho ..

I think so. There are trancey elements in a lot of the breaks I like, some of it is very much heads-down locked-in music. Of course the main focus will be trance, but we want something different to keep a unique edge to the night.

Techno?
