contacting a producer
does anyone know any producers i can contact? such as josh gabriel or dave dresden. i have 1 more year of high school left until i decide to go to college. and would really like advice on what path to take to end up as a producer, such as majors to look for and all of that.
Perhaps you could PM dave dresden, dunno if he'd respond though. . . .
You could always test your luck and try contacting them through their websites. I've never tried so I don't know if you'd get any feedback or not, worth a try though.
I once e-mailed Darude and he replied

i have to say that does look like a cool school. but i'm sure that about 90% of those producers out there didn't go to a special school to learn the bizz. i bet they're mostly assholes just like us that realized their potential
Another good place to start producing/ask tips

that sound recording school in Manchester seems perfect.. except for the fact that its in England.. I would love to live in England for 6 months but i dunno about that tho.. about Full Sail. would i be able to get the same courses such as dance music production specifically for music such as trance and house? like at the manchester school?
i guess Audiotronics would be a course to take at full sail?
anyway i did the "request info" part on their site so maybe ill get some more info about them..
took me a couple minutes to actually find out where the place is. Orlando Florida. not bad
ive been thinking.. would it be better to go to the Manchester one? because the scene is so much better there then it is in Orlando,Florida.
i want to go to the manchester one too badly!
but its so expensive to move and house in england ;-(
that full sail site is just about the coolest site i've ever seen hehehe...
to be bruttally honest, i think most producers got where they are on raw talent and interest in the music, rather than some shitty course.
Creativity cannot be taught in a school.
You can be as technically perfect as possible but if you make shit music you make shit music... it'd just sound better quality wise.
There are loads of producers right here who have learned everything by themselves by experimenting and trying different things and are now getting signed and getting records out.
Trying to learn to be a good musician in a school is just silly.

It says at the S-S-R place that the course covers :-
Midi Sequencing
Audio Sequencing
Wave Editing
Soft Synthesis
Soft Sampling
Virtual Mixing
CD Burning
Studio Environment
and, "The course covers all the latest, most popular software used within the industry, such as Cubase, Reason, Wavelab, Recycle, and a variety of softsynths and plugins."
After reading it, Im sure it would be a fun course, but you could probably learn all of that on here and through trial an error yourself, like whats already been said.
