Worm Popper Orikdea@AfterLife (Review)

First off ... BIG UP TR for this event! Sorry I couldn't make it to the ESO event, my friends were running late and we got to Afterlife almost at midnight.

Pretty good night! Orkidea was not dissapointing at all. For those who are going to WEMF, trust me I know he will steal the show in the main room.

Jungle Room was empty

Great amount of TOTA representin' tonight and the VIBE was great! A lot of smiles and NRG from the crowd! Everyone was enjoyin' themself and have a wicked time! MAJOR BIG UPz TO EVERYONE WHO CAME OUT TO SUPPORT!

Ari & co., Del, AZ, Chris, Mirza & co, Aaron, Ukrainianstud and sorry to those I missed out.

the_broad (ginaizm to the max), missQ (final we meet), partyprincess, tatgirl, Erika (yeah you watch your back when we meet again ) and finally Kati(Very nice meeting you and all I gotta say is GOTCHA!)

Looking 4ward 2 hearing more from this man this weekend, very nice set... 2 many ginas overcrowding the dancefloor...

Posted by tatgirl on Jul-25-2003 09:46:

Good times, people! Thanks to TR for making that happen. I'm gonna be hurtin' at work today...
Met a buncha new TA's tonite (or for the 2nd/3rd time around- my brain is malfunctioning lately, so memory is shit- I apologize).

This was unlike my last Orkidea experience in the sence that I couldnt ID a single track he played last time- tonite, I knew plenty! (both experiences were good ones tho). Seems like that guy has EVERY genre in his bag, and somehow, he manages to mix them into each other flawlessly (unless the cd player is a crappy one, poor guy!). So many times people tried to leave, but then he'd drop another wicked track, and they'd end up staying another 1/2-hour or so til they actually left. Too bad more people weren't there- u expected more from all the hype there was around it. Even still, I'm sure Orkidea felt the love in the room. < BTW, I invited him to our TA campsite at WEMF, so have that TA banner hanging high, guys....

Some tracks we heard:
(? i forget)- 'Street Carnivale'
Tomas vs Filterheads - 'Sunshine' (Scumfrog mix)
Mauro Picotto- 'New Time, New Place'
Greece 2003 (?) last remix
Motorcycle- 'As the rush comes' (til the cd skipping was too much)
Coldplay- 'Clocks' (any idea what remix?)

maybe i'll go grab an hour of sleep....

There were so many times I could not believe the music I was hearing last night. The funky ass breaks in the beginning got me primed for the ass kicking that I have been waiting for from Orkidea since State 01. What a fantastically flowing flawless (one more f) fucking set.

When you see the same faces dancing at 3:30am that you saw at 12:30am on a Thursday night you know the vibe and the music is special.

Amazing night.

Nice to see Pepi indeed and his party partner Kati who better come out to more parties. Also the friendly TA faces were great to see.

Great work TR.

More Tracks
Three n One - Reflect (2003 rmx?)-Thanks Orkidea for telling me that one.
Maati Laamen - Flakes
Rusch & Murray - Epic (A+B rmx)
Aalto - Rush (Super 8) - the closing closer
Goldenscan - Sunrise (Ronski? rmx)

Orkidea mixed flawlessly.

I completely blame Del for this!! Strange as soon as he goes up on the stage the thing skips....

Anyways, the party was excellent. I was one of those people that was ready to leave but kept on staying for one more song until we just ended up staying until the end.

Nice seeing everyone again!

We recorded the whole set, directly onto a pc, from last night.. I'm pretty sure Swamps is going to provide it for download.

Its been a while since i went to a club other than the Guvernment complex but i decided that Orkidea (talented young DJ from finland) was a perfect excuse to head out for a lil pre-guv party this weekend.

Got there around 10.30 and the lineup was.......non existent. we walked right in, paid $10 cover which was about as good as it gets for a big name dj in a small club i guess. Dunno who was spinning the opener but he was pretty good. The sound system didnt do him justice and some tracks just sounded muffled to me. Safe to say i was a lil skeptical on how good this night was actually gonna be when orkidea came on. Let me take this time to say a lil something bout the club...smallish dance floor that could get crowded if it gets packed. The decor was nice...nothing WOW but definately not hard on the eyes. The lighting system was average but again im being picky here cuz im used to the guv main room and its trippy shows. The staff was very cool..laid back, friendly yet with a sense of awareness about them (keepin their eyes open, etc).

So Orkidea steps up to the booth around and he spent around 3 to 5 mins just watchin the crowd first (no one was dancing at this point) and gettin the vibe of the place. Im guessin he was also chartin out the direction of his 4 hr set at this time. He walked around the crowd for a bit and talked to a couple of people..I was hit by how young he looked...didnt look older than 21 or so. Finally he stepped up to the plate and almost immediately the floor started to fill up..He played some smooth progressive house early on continuing on the style that the opening dj had spun. His stylle slowly got trancier and trancier. Then he mixed it up beautifully and threw in some great breaks for 20 mins to half an hour. All of a sudden the sound system seemed pretty good and i didnt care bout the lighting that much..i was really digging this music.....the rest of the night went by fairly quickly....it was a smooth 4 hour set that followed a story. He messed up at the end when he was playing "as the rush comes" for an encore. something was wrong with the cd i think (that track was on a cd). So obviously we deserve a longer encore....CLOCKS and one more great harder track. Perfect end to the night...

This guy looks destined for greatness and he would rip up the GUV if he spun over there as a guest.

TA's i saw - mako (thanks for the ride), resnick, Tatgirl, maxtuh, the broad and various others whose names escape me.
night gets a 9/10 from me

see ya'll at the guv on sat

This was a great party. IT was a smooth nite all along, the smooth, flawless set (I agree, hansolo) and all the nice TA's I met.

I knew it was you all along, E2EK1EL, I just played along...DigiNut, nice to meet you as well, Jenny, jak sie czujesz?..All TA's I met were super nice..Hansolo, great energy coming from you! Thanx, Pepi, my party buddy, gotta do this more often, you make me laugh! I did not see anyone who didn't belong there, everyone was having such a good time.

Orkidea was great, I knew that he would be, ever since State01. Too bad the CD scratched a few times, but not his fault..He got us a good replacement (Coldplay remix) So, I am realllly happy that I went, thanks, Del and the whole TA mass!!

When and what time is Orkidea playing at WEMF?

Posted by DigiNut on Jul-25-2003 20:09:

Can't believe I made it through work today... and now it's hell, such a weird feeling when your brain wants to sleep but your body doesn't, but hey, it was worth it!

Anyway, got there at about 11:15 and there were about 8 people inside. After Orkidea came on though, the crowd did grow to a pretty nice size - I wouldn't have minded a few more people, but I liked having the room to dance, and it's cool when half the room is people you know. (The other half, I presume, were Tribers, whom I know nothing about, but some of them were pretty cute). My first time at Afterlife - seems like not too bad of a place, it doesn't have much in terms of lighting or decor, but then again, most clubs other than Viva and the Guv don't. And who needs that crap anyway, as long as the sound system is clean, which it is.

Well, Orkidea's set was surprisingly awesome. I can't believe I was listening to 2 hours worth of prog house and breaks and actually enjoying it, but hey, this guy knows what he's doin'! By the way, one of the breaks tracks he spun was a totally warped (but good) remix of Domination [Way Out West]. Great transitions, great track selection, it sucked that TWO of his CDs were scratched, but whatever, not his fault!. I think when that happens, the DJ should just snap the POS in half and throw the pieces out into the dancefloor. I think what I like the most about Orkidea - which has become pretty clear to me after seeing him a few times now - is that even though he stays away from too much cheese, he also doesn't play stupid noise tracks (you know, the ones that sounds like beeps, farts, incomprehensible monotone Esperanto vocals and some hi-hats and a bass drum?). I'm hedging my bets that this DJ was classically trained, but maybe I'm wrong.

What was up with the police walking in at about 3 AM? I noticed the club shut down the jungle room early, did it have something to do with that, or did it just shut down 'cause it was empty?

Personal comments and shoutouts:
Drew - nice to see you made it down, always a pleasure.
Drew's friend - yes, I'm an idiot and I can't remember names after 4 AM, so sue me. Was nice meeting ya though, you're hardcore, sounds like WEMF is part of your religion.
John - you made it! Where'd you disappear to, though? You made a post at 4 AM, why didn't you stay!?
Az - didn't think you'd make it either... hope your 'chat' went smoothly, hahaha.
Mako - Pure Gino, what can I say.
Samhouse - I'm not sure if I met you, were you with Mako? If so, nice to meet you too.
Resnick - haven't seen you since Gielen, get out more!
Jacob - great chatting and thanks for the ride!
Christina - you and Del were making me bust a gut half the night. Roommate's cool too, didn't get his name though.
Erika - good to finally have a formal introduction.
Sooper & Hansolo - a pleasure, but you guys weren't nearly drunk enough (that's what happens when work is on the horizon though eh.)
Nat - still mad?
Kati - << she actually looks like her avatar! Was awesome meeting you, hope we see some more of you in future parties. (and your buddy - Pepi?).
Chris, Mirza, Navid, Margs, Ray, & Monish - no comments needed, you guys rock period.
Oh and of course Graham - DEEZE NUTZ, ya damn no-show!

Sorry if I forgot anyone, it was awesome seeing so many tranceaddicts out there to support.

Peace!

This was a good party,it really seemd like it was a party just for TA's,at the end of the night it was just us TA's that were there.
The music was good last night, but abit too much prog, but it got alot better toward the end,and there was enough room to dance and everything.
It was nice seeing all you TA's,see you guys at Above&Beyond!!!!
