Dunno Burning mixes on 80-min. CDs

Hello guys,

I recorded a 76- or 77-minute mix and bought a set of blank 80-min. CDs (TDK Audio) to record it.

After I burned a CD, I listened to it in my car and found that it skipped. So I looked again at the CD and saw the label "80 min. 700 MB". Out of curiosity I looked at the size of my 76-min. set and found it to be well over 700 MB (in fact closer to 800). And this was recorded at the standard CD quality, 44/16 or whatever.

So, does this mean I can't take advantage of the 80-min. technology? And how do others do it?! I have some CDs at home with playtime of 79 minutes and they play fine... even though that means they must be about 900 MB. So are there bigger CDs available for consumers? If so why didn't I see them? Thanks

All those numbers mean are you can EITHER put 80 min. of .wav form audio on the CD, or 700mb of data (.mp3's, .txt, whatever). The CD should have nothing to do with the skipping. Give it another go I say and see if it turns out any better.

And the fact that that 80-min. mix is >> 700 MB doesn't mean a shit for audio?

Yes, it's compressed.

So what do you think is the problem, the CD-writer?

I just bought a BUSlink 48x/16x/48x external burner that came with Nero. Nero is the software for burning CDs. I'm not too pleased with it -- it took me several hours to figure out how to disable the 2-sec. gap option for my mixes -- and even then, it burned crap CDs that skip all the time.

Would do you guys recommend? What are some other good CD-burning programs to try? Nero sucks! And I tried installing Feurio, which sucks even more (to burn a CD you first must put together a 'project' in a separate program, plus it's so cluttered you have no idea what the fuck to do).

Thanx for any & all recommendations/pointers!

CDRWin is all I use. I had a lot of problems with the quality of my CD's when using Nero as well.

I've never had a problem with CDRWin.

several hours? hmm, just use nero express and use the cue file in the make a disc image option, i think it is the bottom one, wont have a 2 second gap, btw the help file helps too, cdrwin is a good program too

i use CDRWin, but Nero to burn with cues...best advice is to burn @ 4x...will take awhile, but rarely messes up the CD...

has anyone tried FEURIO
i like it best

try easy cd creator 5 or 6. also try burning at a slower speed. just because your cd burner is capable of going at 48x doesnt mean you can. it depends on your comp speed and memory. i have a 500 cpu and 320 ram and the fastest i can burn cds with no problems is 8x even though my burner can go faster. my mixes are always over 700 mb and around 75 min but i never have any trouble burning them to cd. and if you got a slow comp like mine dont do anything else while its burning that may be way its skipping. good luck.

When burning audio ALWAYS burn at slow speeds.

Always burn music CD's at slower speed....this avoids too many buffer under-runs.

thanks to all of you for the replies

I never really got an error saying buffer overflow, although the meter displayed it at like 99.5%.

In response to the question about Feurio... yes I've tried it, and it SUCKS! Too awkward to use, extremely hard to figure out, the interface is cluttered beyond belief and you can't get anything done. A task as simple as dragging the files to burn and saying "Go!" requires you to manage projects in a separate app, and other crap like that
