MidGate

(reply to old/first post)...

Tezz.. I hear what yr saying about the bass, i am not totaly happy with it yet so watch this space

Wim.. Like you said, it could do with some pads/strings at the begining to tie it together but i am still trying 2 'talk' my bro into this (p.s. thanx 4 the tips on FX, as you can see, it's getting there!).[I]

i downloaded this last week and forgot to reply - sorry

I'm liking this, the actual composition is very imaginative, and i think there are plenty of good FX noises and little percs in there, a nice detailed production. the one thing thats bugging me is the cymbal samples you have... and i know myself, cymbals are a pain in the ass to choose samples for, maybe you have effects on them, they just sound really synthetic, not a fan.

but on the whole - thumbs-up.

Posted by ABSYNTH on Jul-29-2003 10:30:

Cheers JFM glad you liked it, the cymbals are a pain to get sounding well but now i have listened to it on different systems i think i can make them sit in the mix better, should have an update as soon as i get more feedback

Come on ppl, it only takes 2 ticks

Glad you liked it Tezz, i'v not changed that much, new perc loop but the bit i think you are on about i have added a little extra bit to help it in

Should have an update in about an hour, i'm just givin my ears a rest & then mastering it

Posted by trancedfarmer on Jul-30-2003 15:23:

very impressive production!! It has somewhat of an Astral feel to it. The structure of your bassline works along those lines. Deffinately one of the more impressive productions to come out of this thing recently.

actually- im stupid- it wasnt your song that i listened to. oh how sad!

New version now up!

Pretty nice track, good melody and great attention to detail.
Somehow, though, it feels like it's not going nowhere, there's no drive. That might be intentional but it's not really my cup of tea.

Thanks (I think) for your comments, thats the thing with these forums, not everyone will like everything, or will be to everybodys taste, so thanks again

Posted by DJ-Kreing^^ on Jul-31-2003 13:02:

Nice tune there...
I would have liked it even more if it had some harder driving percussion, cus thoes cosmic gate kind of synth give it the hard trance feeling but at the same time the percussion seems relaxed and slow.

Make it just alitle bit more kicking, and it will be fine.

Posted by ABSYNTH on Jul-31-2003 13:10:

Yep i hear you, i remixed it last night and uploaded it, but now i have had a listen 2day, the perc is not sitting aswell as it did

Am going to re do it again, so update (again he he) will be up soon Have a listen when i re-post it, should be about 3.30pm

Abs.

Cheers John

Just updated See what you think now!

The track has no energy or drive.

I can see several reasons for this: First, you don't appear to have used any hats. Normally, prominent hi-hats in between the kicks get the track going. When you add even more hats here and there, the groove gets even better. Also, you should sprinkle more snares and drumrolls around. That kick pattern that starts in the beginning, it just keeps going and going forever (and it's not a very exciting kick, either).

On the plus side the melody is good and the effects are awesome. I really could learn a lot from you in that regard.

Keep working!

Posted by ABSYNTH on Jul-31-2003 21:59:

Ye Yep i know whats going on with the hats, there is 2 good hats in there but my ears are playing tricks. So im gonna leave it for a few days, mix it again and re post it

Thanks for comments about FX ect.. it's what im working on the most ATM & i have found a few tricks i will pm you (do you use vst pluggins?)

club stormer! the percussion is different indeed, but it didn't bother me a bit.. great track!

Posted by rqpeyruxvg on Jul-31-2003 22:40:

Yes im am really liking this now, the bass is deeper and its just amazing .

Imo i would leave the hihats, its different, thatz why i like it.

The square synths used work a treat i just love the transitions and breakdown, a great piece of work.

If this was signed and released (which it would) it would kill the clubs no problemo!

You have got a pure stormer here mate, do something with it

Great job!

Wow! Thanks lads.

I have got the perc sorted but i need 2 leave it 4 a day & then Master it again with fresh ears!, I just want 2 pull the open hat & a hat loop up in the mix abit It gives it just that little extra it is calling 4!

Then i will get it played out and see what happens

Posted by TOR on Aug-03-2003 19:08:

as i already said, i really like this track! not as powerful as one would expect in terms of percussion, but i love the bassline and the main melody! i'd like to have a go at remixing this.. i haven't had much inspiration lately, but you never know what comes out of it.. if i have your permission of course, absynth!

* still waiting *

Posted by ABSYNTH on Aug-07-2003 18:59:

Ok here is the midi for the Bass line and the main lead, i just cut the lead up and used 2 different synths on it to get them playing off each other.

MidGate Midi (save target as ect...)

Have fun and if there is any other bits you want they will be in audio but let me know and i will put them up 2

Abs.

(P.S anymore feedback on the updated version ppl?)
