adding to ReBirth....

well, ive been doodling around with rebirth recently, and ive been havin fun, but i want to add some other sounds that arent included with the software versions of a 808, 909, and two 303s.... obviously, you cant use vst plugins with it.... or could you? (as in using the vst as a stand alone, and sync-ing it with rebirth? keep in mind im a total noob to any kind of production software, so thats just a semi-educated guess.....but now that i think about it, there'd be no kind of sequencing program for the vst, so id have to deal with it in real time, or with whatever little sequencer would be integrated in the vst, right?)

so i was thinking, could i get one of the other programs that is ReWire compatible with ReBirth that uses VSTs, and plugging all the wanted VSTs into the other program?

along with trying the question, could anyone clear up any kind of misconception i might have, seeing how i barely know what im talking about....

Well, first of all, you can add your own sounds into Rebirth with the mod builder. Basically, this lets you replace the samples already in the 808 and 909 with your own samples. This isn't really that useful as it would be easier to just use a sampler but it's something to do if you're bored.

As far as syncing rebirth with other VST programs, this is quite easy. You need to get yourself a vst host that uses rewire though. I use Cubase SX myself and it works fine. From here, you can bring together the 303's, the 808 and the 909 along with any other VST or DX programs you like. You can also automate the settings with a little more ease. I find Rebirth to be a bitch at times when trying to save automated patches.

So in answer to your question, yes you can use VST plug-ins with it, and you don't have to deal with it "in reall time" as you put it. You can bring everything up in the sequencer.
