Sunburst - Eyeball, instrument?

I was just flicking through some of my tunes when i came across this tune again and i wondered what instrument was used to make that sound in it. I've never heard it in any another tune. Anyone got any ideas?

I think it's a balalaika, a Russian string instrument... whatever it is Matt Darey has used it in several of his other productions.
