Anybody else not like Digweed GU:19 LA
Why is it so hyped?
It is too dark. It takes so long to build it's energy. By the time One - Aria (track 10 on cd2) comes on, I've already lost interest.
It is moody and has atmosphere, but what it has doesn't make me feel like dancing.
There are so many forgettable songs. (maybe I need more of a melody to remember) The ones that are memorable like Love in Traffic are totally overrated. I don't know why that song is so liked and why DJs play it, especially when it seems hard to mix in with other songs.
Basically it is extremely progressive, and more housey than trancey, imo. I hope Digweed comes back from the dark side to a brighter place somewhere between GU:Sydney and GU:Hong Kong.
I was there at the Mayan in LA, when Digweed spun the music for this album and I thought he was good, but I was expecting more. The album was a bigger disappointment.
Tiesto at the Mayan a couple months ago totally fulfilled my expectations, he was great and the live album Magik 7 was recorded that night.
BTW, my favorite DJ's are PVD, Tiesto, Christopher Lawrence, I like my trance hard, fast, melodic, some emotion, with a bit of progressive tunes to balance out the inevitable anthems.
First of all Diggers doesn't spin hard, melodic trance and so on..his musik is pure progressive and its really amazing progressive, 2 me 1 of da best in da world. i have GU019 and GU014 Digger's and its really amazing progressive..its a matter if u like progressive or not simple...Diggers live set @ Homelands was awesome, dont know da tracklist but i didnt make me go 2 sleep either, it was like chillin musik
I went out and bought this album and liked it pretty much. It is really progressive and I'm only just getting into the progressive sound (more of an epic/uplifting trance lover). I actually listened to a couple of times to go to sleep (not to say Digweed's sets MAKE me go to sleep as in boring but the dark progressive feel relaxes me for some reason). I had the problem with it that it really didn't make me want to dance like uplifting does. Digweed's Homelands 2001 set is much more dancable so I still have a pretty good opinion of him.
for his style of music, hes the shit, personally I think his skillsare incredible, however I tend to butt heads with his music sometimes
Progressive music generally isn't meant to make you go crazy in the first place. Personally I love it, and find it much easier to dance to than most other forms of music. It's also the perfect study aid.
Yes it's uneventful, but it just means that you have to put more into it to get more out of it. Everytime I listen to one of these progressive albums, I get more out of it every time I listen to it. You begin to appreciate just how much is going on under the surface that you missed the first time.
But yes, listen to progressive in the same way that you listen to regular trance music and you will be disappointed.....

I find Diggers to slow to dance too. I can't dance to "the Fall"...122 bpms. His sets are comparable to 7 layer cakes. He builds & teases...like foreplay.
I think GU 19 is brilliant. It's intelligent music. It sounds like 1 long song, I don't where the tracks begin or end thats how subtle & flawless it is. His mixing ability is superb. Most of those tunes became HUGE, all the DJ's have been playing them.
yeha i saw Digweed and Sasha ... over a year ago and they didnt impress me very Progressive and no energy...but back then i was only into Epic and melodic trance...so i wanted more energy shit.....but now i love Progressive...and Progressive is aquired taste....and usually u like it more and more when u listen to it...so i bet i wouild enjoy it so much more now then before
I love his Bedrock productions, especially "Heaven Scent" but as a DJ, I don't know he is a bit boring!
After reading who your favorite dj's are, how can you expect to like Digweed, and the progressive style that he plays? I think that GU19 is amazing...it's one of those albums that I can listen too, over and over and over and still find excitement in it.
I can't wait to see Digweed in 1 week....one more week!
Steve
i think i am rare.
my favourite djs are pvd and digweed.
2 really really contrasting styles.
but, i love them both for different things.
pvd - he picks the best tracks to play, always surprises me with his order that he plays them. trully a great dj.
digweed - wow. this guy is the best. i have so many sets by him, and not one of them sucks. i dont think it is possible for him to screw up!
but, diggers is the best man.
for example, b/c you might have heard it, listen to his Gatecrasher from a couple of days ago.
so amazing!
starts nice and slow...gets the crowd into it, then boom, drops some really big tracks...cant get better than this.
so many people out there put on a set, in mp3 format, and expect BOOM, right away, big energy.
doesnt work that way.
only tiesto does that (which is why i hate him).
you need to progress the crowd into it, you need to make them feel it, and yearn for a harder track.
then, and only then, does diggers deliver.
Yeah, I'd agree with Mark....
A set has to have some sort of direction otherwise it gets boring.
..
digweed is definately at the top in the music he does....deep progressive...yumm...i use to not like this type of music but...i just love progressive now... if youre one of the 24/7 energetic trancey type of person..u wont enjoy digweed...
Yea, I hear ya Mark...I am weird too.
When I spin at home, I like to spin progressive, techy trance.
In my car I like to listen to progressive trance as well.
When I play at out parties, I like to play epic trance.
Go Figure?
hehe
Steve
whats a progressive?
seriously tho, i too am into epic/uplifting trance when it comes to parties, but at home, nothing beats good progressive sound... and GU19 is simply unbeliavable, i love it, but i can see why some say its "boring"... btw, viceroy, wheres digweed next week? in toronto?!
TranceGeek....no, I wish he was in TO.
I'm playing in Detroit this upcoming Friday...and we are going to stay the night and see Diggers play the next day at the same Club...it's called Clutch Cargo or something like that.
Steve
haha
when i drive, i like to hear fatboy slim
i have a set of his from 1999-12-31 at cardiff, an essential mix
its so good, so much energy
roll the windows down and blast that!

Digweed is bloody fantastic.
if ur not into his style, u definitely won't like GU019
this CD is one of the best compilations produced lately.. nuff respect to Diggers
When I saw him live in LA, I thought he was good, a little too proggy and housey than what I usually like, but I dug it. But the album itself is boring... IMHO, if he played his set was like the album, half the dance floor would have cleared. GU019 seems like it's an album made for listening on headphones or home alone.
I really like Sasha... I hope we releases something new soon.

like somebody else has said, you cant listen to progressive house/trance the same way as uplifting trance... with GU19, you HAVE to listen to the whole cd to get the most out of it.. i remember when i bought it, the shop guy put it on the headphones for me to check out, but im like "nah, not that good".. then he chucked it on the cd stores $6000 a pair speakers and im standing their blown out of my mind!... listen to the loud or not at all is the phrase... and the more you listen to it fully, the more it'll grow on you.... it's now one of my fav cds of all time =)
I've listened to it about 6 times all the way through... that's about 12 hours... It still hasn't grabbed me. Maybe I just have to stow it away until I get sick of "regular" trance... right before I turn to Drum and Bass (where old trance addicts go to die)
