Berlin Angel?

What's the angel that I see in all these videos from Berlin. Like PvD - For An Angel and the recent Loveparade 2003 vids.

What's it called?
What's it's significance? (anything particularly significant to electronica?)

JP has encyclopedic knowledge of this and will provide a better explanation than I could, but I'll respond anyhow.

The angel is Victoria of the Siegessule (Victory Column), representing the Goddess of Victory, and both her and the Column do have a bit of history behind them. You can read one summary here.

Of course, the 'Golden Else' has also gained some newer symbolic meaning of love an freedom in recent years given its central placement in the Loveparade.

The story about the Gold Else, Loveparade, For an Angel?

In 1994 Paul van Dyk made For an angel.

The angel to which the song is dedicated is called 'Gold Else'. That golden angel on top of the Siegessaule is the symbol of freedom for all Berlin residents. Paul, being East-German, understands off course the importance of that.

For an Angel is also the unofficial anthem for all Loveparades. It's a tribute to the Loveparade ravers, love and the spirit of music.

Gold Else, on top of the Victory Column, became the centre of the Loveparade when it moved from the Ku'Damm in 1996. The statue got the status of guardian of the event.

When For an angel was released in 1998 and played at the Loveparade, it was clear for everyone what the song stood for. This song, the Loveparade and the angel reflect a whole (youth) movement.

That's about it

I always though For An Angel was written for Natascha?

I thought so too.He got inspired to write it straight after he met her or something

For an angel is NOT inspired by Natasha (Seidel).

He must have known her back in 1994, but as far as I know didn't have a relationship with her yet...

Together we will conquer is about their relationship

Ps: take a closer look at the vinyl cover...
