2003 - The Year of Prog?

Posted by ShadoWolf on Aug-06-2003 04:09:

that was supposed to be a poll, damn it

Posted by Yan on Aug-06-2003 04:11:

It's the year of the boy bands, silly.

I think that last year ALONG with this year is a progressive one.

Posted by Diegoes on Aug-06-2003 04:12:

Idea

It's actually year of the sheep according to the chinese calendar

Posted by fr0st on Aug-06-2003 05:03:

if prog becomes the next trend ill find new music.

Posted by Cyberwoo on Aug-06-2003 05:18:

IMO 2002 was the breakthrough year for progressive trance and house music. 2003 may wind up bigger but I wouldn't call it the year of prog.

Posted by BonGWateR on Aug-06-2003 05:20:

lol it's only August!

Posted by reso on Aug-06-2003 05:29:

trance died out ages ago..

when diggers stopped spinning trance...

"its true"

Posted by Creamfields23 on Aug-06-2003 05:49:

2003 Is Definately the breakthrough of Techno here in Holland.

Facts:

Dancevalley had it's own Techno mainstage hosted by mister Techno Himself - Carl Cox, this area was very crowdy all day long

The Bigger Dj's in Holland like Armin and Tiesto play Techno and Prog tunes more often in there sets

And I am very happy about this change "in" sets!

Hehe...Temper, temper, now TA213. You do remember that there are such things known as "opinions"? In this case, it's either that or being misinformed...

they are big boys of "trance" not "prog"

im sorry its true.. and they should learn how to mix first ::cough:: tiesto before even attempting to mix progressive.

edit: spirit finger dj's concentrate on jumping up and down and rubbing their nipples (thats for trance) progressive concentrates on the mix

Hehe...last time I checked, Armin was ALL prog, baby. And don't be dissing Armin's or Tijs's (He WILL get better) mixing skills, lest you can do better...Oh wait... you can't! If you would have, you'd have probably been in their position.

By the way, I've got nothing against you. Just some simple teasing ;p

Erm, maybe you should check sales charts from the major distributors like Prime and Intergroove and see whats at the top, then see if you are still laughing.

Haha...I still am. I pretty much think that the "house" genre has been assimilated by the other types of electronic music

Posted by davinox on Aug-06-2003 07:38:

i'd say...

Punk

look at the sales!

Posted by Spective on Aug-06-2003 07:51:

House elements can be found in many subgenres of electronic music. However, the biggest sales in records are in the subgenres of Progressive House, Tech-House, Funky House, and Deep House, which is what lead me to my conclusion that house music was huge this year

Posted by Cobalt on Aug-06-2003 08:14:

I'd agree with Spective that Tech-House and Funky House have been bigger than usual this year (thus far). Trance will probably finish with its best year since '99, but is continuing to stagnate. Prog has some progress, but largely just sat around and did nothing. That's just my opinion.

Seemed like a solid statement at first...but, yes...it is my bad I just go around these days, feeling like electronic is melding into one type of music (even though it's not happening). House music is too hard for me, anyway

Posted by Spective on Aug-06-2003 08:31:

I must agree, the disparity between sub-genres of electronic music are becoming less and less as time goes on. I think this is a good thing, because it bring more types of different crowds together. For example, if tech-house today was the way it still was 2 years ago, I wouldnt be listening to it. But now, many people are using melodic trancier synths. Joshua Collins is a prime example of this evolutionary process. Its gonna be interesting to hear what electronic music will be like in 2 years.

I thought it was the year if the sheep.
