WaveLab not so hot
am I the only one that thinks WaveLab sucks?
it's so limited I can't even do the most basic things there.
If I were to buy a music program now WaveLab certainly wouldn't be it.
Guess you haven't really looked into it then.
I must say I didn't like it at first (was more of a Soundforge/Samplitude user before). But not so long ago I started to go deeper into it (and I mean deeper). Agreed, it seems awkward at first if you compare it to other stuff, but if you persist, you'll see it's all pretty logical in fact. It's very powerful.
But then again, you should take something you feel comfortable with. My motto is : it's not the tools that matter, it's the result. If you feel more comfortable with another program, fine, your decision. But to say it's limited, not at all. Look again.
I've always been a Sound Forge user, so naturally I think Wavelab ain't all that
Seriously though, there are many people who swear by Wavelab, so it must have some pretty nifty features tucked away.
what exactly are you trying to do? I don't really use soundforge but i would think wavelab could do anything that can be done on soundforge.

hmmm, you all say wavelab sucks but post no reason why. I've never had any problems with the program and it can do anything that soundforge (Zzzzzz) can do.
iv been using wavelab for a few years now
and i have NO problems with it at all.
i think its a great peace of software, and a great mastering tool.
Eugene, why don't you say WHAT exactly you cant do, and mabye someone can point out what you've missed...instead of just saying it sucks without backing it up...

I don't like it at all...
I've always used CoolEdit so I guess that's why I don't like it. =)
haven't even tried out wavelab or soundforge....first thing I tested was cooledit and it does exactly what I wan't and I can do it fairly easy so why change
I think it's just a matter of taste wich one you choose

That's not a WaveLab specific problem. Happens in SoundForge as well with certain plugins (Ultrafunk plugins come to mind).

| Originally posted by Eugene For example reverse echo on vocals (a pre-vocal effect). Sounds easy: Reverse Ctrl+R, add Echo and/or Reverb, reverse again. However, the length of the track does not increase due to reverb, and the effect gets cut off. You have to manually insert a silence at the end to make room for the fx. Also the whole vocal gets a reverb which is not what I want. |

Another example: I want to change the pitch of something. However, when I change the pitch, my sample gets elongated or shortened (depending on whether it's pitched up or down), whereas I need the length to stay the same, just the pitch to change. |

If you want them to be permanently applied to the track, you have to render it first, before you reverse it again. Otherwise, the reversing before reverb wouldn't do anything. Uh, I don't know what version of WaveLab you have, but mine (4.00) has Process -> Pitch Correction, and an option called "Length Compensation" when set to 100, should keep the track the same length. |
