I think its Mark Otten - Mushroom therapy (Lightscape remix)......

excellent clip...a rarely seen formal interpretation of dance music and electronic DJing...
really interested in what Armin had to say...it's not everyday that you get an interview and on top of that a visual medium in an inside look at a heavyweight's studio

very very nice..=)

TRANSLATION

Dancevalley, today in Spaarnwoude, makes it clear again, Holland is leading in the dancescene, it's a big bussines. 11000 people have their job there, it started with playing some vinyl somewhere, and now it's a big industry. The Dj's are recycling tracks, and are becoming very famous. Two guys together with Armin van Buuren (number 5 at world top 10) ask him why Holland is so fmous in the world wide dance - industry.

ARMIN:
I have some computer and synthesizers here, they have sounds in it. Bassline, you play it together with some other things. You add some sounds you take some away. /ARMIN

We're walking at the main stage here, it's nice view at the valley. God is a DJ.....
It's empty now, but within some hours it's complety full here.

With only 3 turntables? Only? If you see them spinning: they're using 3 turntables at the same time.
They're doctors of the vinyl.
They're using 3 turntables for 20000 people? Yes, less instruments

The industry is very big, a lot of money is earned. The earnings of the Dj's are over 10000 dollar and the festivals are very expensive. A ticket is almost 50 euro plus your drinks. A lot of money is paid and a lot is earned.

Holland has many talent. A lot of proffesional clubs. The goverment finds it important festivals are held. You don't see that in foreign countrys

ARMIN:
Foreign countries are watching holland, with dance music. Not for him but Tiesto Ferry and Johan too. I did three tours in Australie in Melbourne for almost 10000 people. And in Japan, i'm doing a tour in asia in November. /ARMIN

(INTERVIEW WITH AN ENGLISH GUY)

You're hearing for years the hype is over. But it isn't people are going to festivals. DJ's are a export product. The ministry of economic has financed a party as export product in Australie.

ARMIN:
The truc is the speed of current track bringing over in the next track. i'm using toneregulation for that/ARMIN

Dutch DJ's are feeling what the people want. Foreign DJ"s too, but the dutch have a nice trackchoice.

ARMIN:
The mainstage, a dream of a DJ. The highest you can get for a DJ!/ARMIN

Do you have to be musical? or do you have to have any know about computers?
ARMIN:
It have been played by computers. I'm in the bussines for 10 years, and i can't read any musical note but i know how it works on the dancefloor. I have seen people from the conservatory go very wrong in the dancescene.

ENGLISH

On the sources off the dance music is ascend/go up/mount in the music. The dance music is the substitute of the church or the soccerclub.

A GREAT look at things behind the scenes for/of Armin as we (well @ least I )haven't seen before.

I got a little tingle when he steps up @ the end of the clip for the start of his DV set, lol. AND when As the rush comes kicks back in. Man it sucks 2 be in Australia some times :P

That's very assuring for any aspiring producer. The talent has to be there, but you don't have to knowledge of the actualy notes. Its unbelievable to hear him say he can't read sheet music, only because of the top notch productions he gives us year after year.

Thanks for the vid, and the translation!

peace.

Steve

She's an author of some book -- I presume it's about the generation of electronic music.

And yes, it's a great clip.

By the way -- what's that very first track you hear when they show Armin performing at Dance Valley? It sounds awfully familiar to me...

Posted by ambs on Aug-13-2003 04:22:
