Jester DJ Competition Ideas

Hey guys.. I've got a local dj competition next week and I'm planning to play prog house & trance cos that's the music I'm pushing rather than all the other hip hop & r&b djs.. but I've only got a time space of 15 minutes.. You guys got any ideas on how to do a good set in that space of time?

Thanx in advance !

15 minutes!!? I'd say that about all you really can do in that time is pick out your two favorite songs and play them.......15 minutes? That sort of sucks. But, whatever you decide to do.....good luck to you....knock `em dead. I still can't believe they only give you 15 minutes! They should give everyone at least an hour...but I guess if there's a lot of people competeing....what else can they do?

i think thats more of a hip hop competition.....
15 min? you can't do jack...
i think the ppl that will win will be the hip hop dj's since their gonna be like scratchin and cuttin and crabbin all this shit while your just sittin there beat matchin...
hip hop? i would think so

Yeah man.. Its gonna be the hip hop djs that'll sweep it, although the compeition doesn't specify any particular genre.. Well anyway thanks guys.. Wish me luck!

Hey K-cee, Do you know who is judging the contest? And...what kind of music they're into? If you're set on playing something that is trance or house, since you're not gonna be scratchin' (thank god) try to find something that you can do a nice long override with. Maybe even a couple of songs that you can bring in while your playing a "main'" song. I don't know, it's just a suggestion. It pretty much boils down to the judges and what they're into, though.Sometimes, playing something really different can be to your advantage if everyone else is doin' the same thing as each other. If you come in and do something totally different, they're bound to take notice. That might be a good thing. What ever you do, just have a good time. If it turns out to be mainly a hip hop thing, oh well....so what. Just have fun and ....good luck to you.

The judge is a progressive house dj who was a dmc champion back in his country in 1987.. He's been warm up dj for Judge Jules, Sasha, Carl Cox and a host of others.. He'll also be performing that nite..

I'm actually doin wat u're suggesting, Johnny... Just have to get everyting perfect.. Got no time to recover if I f**k up.. This is the first competition of its kind in my country..

Thanks for the support!

Idea

Well I managed to squeeze seven tracks into those 15 mins.. I played three main tunes and added samples fom the others..
The 3 main tunes were
Satoshi Tomiie - Love in Traffic (dark path mix)
Faithless - We Come One
Dj Tiesto - Flight 643 (This tune ripped up the place though no one here has heard it yet!

The others were
Tilt - Seduction of Orpheus (myhtology mix)
Azzido da bass - Doom's Night (Timo maas mix)
Schiller - Das Glockenspiel (humate mix)
system f - exhale (sander kleinenberg mix)

Where in Asia? It was in Brunei.. That's where i live..

Posted by patticus on Jul-06-2001 08:16:

nice! a dark, throbbing sound w/ deep progressive and a crowd killer (faithless)

the bpm speeds must have been weird though, playing all those tracks at same speed?

Posted by k-cee on Jul-06-2001 14:01:

Smoking ..umm..something

I started with the Tilt track.. its got a nice tribal intro, followed by love in traffic which really got the crowd going.. Then it was the remix of exhale and schiller.. I played those two together and it sounded like it was one song.. doom's night was where i changed the bpm, did that by turning off the turntable at the first breakdown.. started the faithless track at the hook, then it was tiesto's flight 643 that tore the place down! Ended the set with a sample of an explosion..

There was another dj who played mainstream house but didn't squeeze in many tracks.. and the tracks he chose were quite mellow.. As for posting it.. well i didn't manage to record it but i'll try to redo it again.. but it won't be the same live with the crowd and all...
Anyway thank u all for your ideas and support.. Gonna try and do better next year!
