Review: Edgar V @ Viva

What a shite night. 1:55am, how pathetic, my ride got tired all of a sudden. And it was turning out to be a hell of a night (Heaven Scent...woot). Now i'm anxious to see some reviews and to see what i missed.

I didn't get to meet any TA's cause everythign happened so quick, I was there one minute getting into it and the next i was gone. Maybe next time. I did however recognise tatgirl with her cornrows but like i said had no time to introduce myself.

BTW i was the guy wearing a navy blue Independent shirt with a big red cross on the back, talking to a short chinese guy (my old volleyball coach who i haven't seen in like 5 years).

Anyone know what the remix of the Chili Peppers - By the way song was?

Just got home, my story is a bit like yours except I got to hear edgar spin for two hours .

As for the sets:
DJ Walter played a warm up set, a bit too mellowish for my taste. Maybe even inconsistent, jumping from genre to genre without a very smooth transition. However he did pick up towards the end of his set and finished off nicely!

Edgar V - can't really say much. I LIKED the first hour, and I REALLY liked the second. Hearing Breathing (Breaks Dub) live @ a club always does it for me. You could say that I left right after he started dropping some hard sick beats. BTW what's the name of the song that uses the prodigy sample??? Oh, and the song after, the one RIGHT before boomerang.

Anyways from what I heard it looks like I left just as the party was getting started. The people I was with wanted to leave early, because one of my friends had work the next morning .

The crowd was better than @ Above & Beyond. Less people aimlessly walking through you, but still more then there should be . TA's really do create a great vibe in the club, so that really made up for it

Off I go.

Jester

Edgar V is a great DJ. I had never heard of him before tonight - but he did impress me. A good varied set, with a few great hits to spice it up. Man he killed us with some techno towards the end.

Was it just me or were the south (right when facing the stage) speakers keep cutting out?

It was good to see all the TAs after a 6 week leave (me last party was Guy Ornadel). See you all @ Oakenfold!!!

Where did DigiNut go? Did the bouncers boot him?

Jenna - Hope you feel better! Mike - Got the CD thanks! Listening too it now! Very good.

More later (maybe!)

Posted by samhouse on Aug-09-2003 11:56:

longer review later.....
walter rosati = ok (i thought he used too many effects..flanger i think)
Edgar V = Awesome..blew me away ...his trance was great...his hard stuff was INSANE..(NOBODY LISTENS TO TECHNO...*bop bop)

Once again the hero of the night for me atleast

MARK "the freak" OLIVER = Unbelieveable....track after track after track...for a second i thought i was at the guvernment...sooo hard..soo nice..soooo mark...

shoutouts to my bro for being at his first allnighter and not only surviving but having a good time too...i thought he was exhausted after edgar v but mark put massive energy into him as well...

Nismo - thanks for the ride man..much appreciated....this was a very special night for my brother (and me). Have fun @ guvy tonight my friend. Ima miss that insanity

Posted by fitom tiel on Aug-09-2003 12:52:

besides the aforementioned, i also heard [from edgar]
junkie xl - take the pill
id
dave gahan - dirty sticky floors (junkie xl dub)
id
motorcycle - as the rush comes

pulser - my religion
afterburn - fratty boy
ferry corsten - indigo
rank 1 - breathing (breaks dub)
megamind - taub 2002

angelic touchdown - marinero (nu-nrg remix)

mark oliver surprised with
scott bond vs. solar stone - 3rd earth

rusch & murrey - epic (original mix)
solid globe - north pole (i quite literally died, cannot walk)

benny bennasi - satisfaction (steve murano remix)

he also surprised by plagiarising...took two of edgar's tracks, and took basically the same route that edgar did, minus one hour of mixing.

in terms of the venue,
all was great
except for the massive amount of pushing

those trance-blockers

shoutouts- a bunch of ye disappeared. much too many

first of all, the meet-up wasn't much of a meet-up. a mini-ta encounter of sorts.

spyder- twas nice that you stopped by. i was...aye, the one with the green shirt.

ambiguous- prissy, prissy..where the deuce were ya, missy?

mosaic, elmo, tatgirl, sober, magnetonium - that was hardcore.

all in all,
thanks for a great bday bash. of sorts.

aye

i retire.

???

Plagiarize? I'm confused! Please explain.

...

Now that I think of it, I don't even own ANY of Edgar's tracks and you say I took two of them?

I'm REALLY confused now! We're talkin' TOTAL CONFUSION, mate!

Edgar V did some fine work last night for the time that I was there. Art, he represented Miami with some banging trance and some techno.

He was dropping big shiny tunes.

Firewall - Sincere (foontastic tune)
Afterburn - Summer Sun (not fratty boy)
Insigma - Avalon (BIG)

I left early so missed Mark's set, but to say he plagirized is dumb and unthoughtful.

Even if he did play some tunes Edgar played, that happens tons of times with DJ's because they are not willling to forgo their style nor what they want to play because of what was played before them. Mark for sure represented and dropped some great tunes.

Thanks to TR as usual for provided the great beats.

Nice to see the TA's out in force as well.

Hey mark, unfortunately i couldnt make it , the club too far off, but your sat spin residency is awesome, always try to make it for that.!!

that was really funny when it came from the DJ he never has any of the tracks, so its proven Mark could have not ripped edgars tracks

If you guys from TA wondering where i was i could not make it i have the flu and confined to my bed for this weekend so i missed edgar V, i will be there for Ferry for sure @ labour of love.

Emono- Mark Oliver did not show up to Viva til a few minutes b4 he was started to play. He has a residency at Lotus Fri nites, and when he is done, he goes to Viva. He has no idea what Edgar V played already, because he WASN'T THERE.

Point validated, so there we have it boys and girls, he couldnt have ripped edgar V off

Posted by DJ_ALFA on Aug-09-2003 15:35:

what a great night, so much trance and then some harder stuff really did it for me since I didn't wanna leave the dance flour even for a minute. Unfortunately we had to go around 4 cause my friend had to work today plus it was her first time at a club. TAs really do create a good vibe there.
Walter - 2/10 at the beginning he played some really shity stuff, the kind of stuff z103 would play but finished off nicely towards the end. Used a lot of rookie DJ effects
Edgar V - 10/10 I have one of his sets prior to attending this event, and that set didn't even have half the energy his set had at VIVA, I was pleasantly surprised. He played the same track twice though, I don't remember which but he did.
Met a few TAs there, sorry I'm bad with names. Quite a few of you were taking pics, sure hope to see them soon. I was the guy in a blue t-shirt and greyish jeans
Peace

Don't worry about it Mark!

Posted by DigiNut on Aug-09-2003 16:38:

I left early as well, seems a few people weren't up to staying the whole night - something in the air maybe? One of the bouncers told me not to drink any more (as if any force on earth could possibly have made me take another sip), but in the end, I left of my own accord, I just wasn't feeling well.

I really did enjoy the sets though, despite leaving a bit early. I didn't get in right at the beginning so I didn't hear Walter's entire set, but what I did hear I actually thought was pretty good. Edgar surprised me, his set was awesome, I can certainly see why he's so popular down there. I didn't get to hear Mark's set at all, so I can't comment, but I'm sure he tore it up as per usual at Viva. And it's been so long since going to Viva, I'd forgotten how much I missed it! What a great club, I hope they host more big parties soon (will definitely try making it to Hardware).

Peace out... got a lot of work to do around the bed...

Another awsome party!
got there with 2 of my buddies around 11:45 cause we wanted to pay 15$ We basically chilled on the benches on the side when Walter was spinning. I got up to the bar that night, I was soo happy, I'm still 18 shhhhhh met you guys again! very nice seeing you again! had a couple of shots, talked it up, good times. Shane man, it was wikkid finally partying with you!!!
Egdar V was the bomb, loved the tracks that he droped, from what I remember:
Junkie XL - Reb Pill, Blue Pill (Bonus remix)
Hatrixx - Miss You (?remix?)
Dave Gahan - Dirty Sticky Floor (Junkie XL remix)
Motorcycle - As The Rush Comes
Pulser - My Religion
Rank 1 - Breathing (Breaks mix)
kept it pumping all the way through! great set!
After Edgar I left cause we were getting kinda tired, and there we a lot of old people dry humping in the area heh...
sweet party! yeeeeeeeeeeesa!

the only thing that got me through this week was thinking about this party, and fuck did it not dissapoint!!!

i was pretty tired from my long work week, and my usual kru decided not to come but i pulled through and brought my friend Annie (LA) from the Israel TA forum. we both had a great time, the beginin of edgars set was decent, but later on he picked it up and i just couldnt stop dancing

shoutouts to all the TA's i saw, its been awhile!!!!

also big ups to Steve and his kru, great partying with you and thanx for the ride home

for the sake of clarification..
and just the plain fact that i now realise i wasnt too clear, as that was written at around 9am, i'll rephrase

mark, it wasnt an insult-
apparently it was only an uninformed review.
all i had to judge last night, though, was the fact that those two tracks i had heard earlier [the one edgar dropped right after goldenscan - of our times being one of them, i believe {i now know that you had no means of identifying that}]
and the fact that the two sets seemed to have the same flow
which, of course, is not a bad thing. at all.
esp. in a night of pure trance.
effectively
as i mentioned before, you killed me.

not even plagiarising; paraphrasing, if anything.
but not even.
discard that.

hell, pardon my vagueness. my ignorance.
both

although, shaya
i dont feel the need to get personal.

hansolo - i identify 'summer sun' by magik 6, which in turn identifies it as 'fratty boy'

RJ - around the middle of edgar's set, he noticed the speaker problem. one of the audio cables wasnt plugged in properly, or damaged, and he tried to fix it. then someone helped him fix it..and from then on, the speakers would cut out at times. momentarily. it was fixed though, until the end of his set, when it cut out again just a tad. i think he warned mark about the problem, and it was fixed completely.
