American customs hate French tourists...

Hello,

I've see on TV today the story of a young girl (18 years old) who wants to improve her english before entering universite. To that, her uncle (french restaurant owner at Washington) invite her to come for two weeks in United States.
But, after approx 6 hours of travel, at the Detroit airport, customs have sumbitted Julia Roussy (her name) to a violent and very long interrogation. She was afraid by the guns of the customs officers then they said that United states don't want her on the territory.
Finally, she was forced to take a plane to return at home.
This is one of other stories of French "filtered" at U.S. borders. It's a bad attitude...

So many assholes in America, yeesh...

I'm sad now. I love america. And I'm afraid to go to United States. I'm afraid because I don't want to undergo an interrogation between two armed guards. Why ? I think that the immigration state-employees want to wear me down in the end.

If you don't understand the TV report, the girl just going to the airport and back to France in 24 hours. She had buy her ticket 1 000 Euros (more than $ 1000) for nothing. It was her first travel of her life and the first country she had choose was United States.

I don't understand the customs...
For me, I hope that I will authorized to discover your great country, peacefully !
Next time, maybe she will choose UK to improve her english...

That sucks ... she got screwed. Just because she got a hard time though, don't think that her experience is commonplace. There are probably thousands of French people that cross the border all the time without incident. Just like I'm sure that stories we hear of anti-Americanism in France doesn't happen all over the place or all the time.

US customs are fuck heads. I'll tell you a personal story of how shit they are with anyone, not just french.

My parents and uncles are citizens here and everything, and my grandmother was coming from Chile to visit them/us . So this is what happens.

When she arrived, she had to go through the US custom. The US Customs guy asks her why is she coming here and such, she says that she's coming here to visit her sons ( whom are all citizens ), nephews and spend some time with my mother whome went through some hard attack and take a little time with her and everything.. ( lets take into consideration that shes an elderly woman ). Ok, and then the guy tells her of how much time is she planning/wanting to stay. And she says that she wishes to stay for 4-6 months or so. And then the Fuckhead US custom tells her, YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO TELL ME HOW LONG YOU WANT TO STAY, IM THE ONE THAT Decides that.. so my grandmother, shocked, surprised and everything, was like, ok but you asked me, I just answered you.. and the guy was like. "Dont answer me back, I could send you right back to your country right now.". At the end, the fuckhead gives her the 6 months stay.. so with all that, it tells you that.."THEY ARE CRACKHEADS". The worst part is that no one can do anything about it, they got all the power/authority to do anything they want. Gov't gave all the power to them. And their acts are sometimes out of place.. Im guessing, all the time..

LOL so customs agents are just pricks who hate everybody ... that's just wonderful. When I was travelling back alone from Europe when I was around 17 or so they were giving me a hard time with my declarations and kept saying I could get fucked.

Posted by Haunted on Aug-12-2003 23:40:

why would you want to come here anyway? i would much rather live in europe.

Posted by DR86 on Aug-12-2003 23:51:

C'est fou! Ma tante est venu de la France il y a deux semaines, et elle n'avait pas de problemes avec les mecs dans l'aeroport. Oh mais ils sont fou les americians!!

Posted by DR86 on Aug-12-2003 23:53:

Yeah, the customs officers and passport people in JFK airport (NYC) are always giving me shit because of my Lebanese passport. I'm always subject to "completely random" bagagge checks, while no one else is. Random my ass...

been thru many borders and customs are generally the worst part. it so depends on your passport, if I use my Australian passport I usually dont have any trouble.

you seriously need to wake up man. If you think this was just an isolated incident and this doesnt happen much, then you must be thinking that you're living in some dream world. Incidents like that had been happening on daily basis. I for one is an example. Several of our friends had gone through this ordeal, getting harrassad at airports, getting handcuffed, getting our luggage ripped apart and trashing it all over the place...ONLY because people from different ethnic backgrounds. It doesnt matter these days if you're a US Citizen, just be prepared to be humiliated and even getting locked up.

all she had to say was "am i being detained?"

"then I would like to know what I'm charged with and would like to speak with a lawyer"

that would have gotten them away REAL quick

french or not, tourists mean international $$ being spent in the states...she could have gotten those rednecks fired REAL quick

Yes, I'm sure of that but when you are in an unknown country, when you have 18 years old, when you don't speaking very well english, when you don't know the local laws, when you are humiliated, it's difficult to threat them by speaking of lawyers...

In France, policemen, custom officers must respect people. If they want to arrest a person, they need to have some reason.

Detroit? YESH! I think the guy was doing her a favor by sending her away from there, and as a somewhat realated note my dad got interrogated for having a stuffed bear(poor thing got torn asunder) + large beard back in the '60s they thought he was going to blow up the plane as it had troops on it.

Posted by St_Andrew on Aug-13-2003 13:29:

US visas are even more strange, before i came into US i had to fill in a paper with quastions like "are you going to comit any terrorist actions while staying in US", "are you going to steal, murder or brake any other US law while staying in US?"... I guess al quaida would say yes on such a quastions... (this was just 2-3 months before 9/11)

Don't be so shady? I travel all the time with my friends, I was born in Hong Kong, my other friend was born in Malaysia, one was born in Iran, another born in Pakistan, and the rest are whiteys. We never get harrassed so it's quite possible we live in a dream world.

You're right. Customs officers hate french tourists, they block them at the borders of United States. But Customs officers are not able to block british weapons dealer...

ok I agree with you about tourists but this has nothing to do with it. If you actually read in detail about this incident...Russia sold a fake weapon to this guy...the LET him come to the states while he was being tracked by FBI and MI6...then arrested him so they could get a bigger charge than just purchasing...this way they got him him for much more...understand?

Posted by festayre on Aug-13-2003 19:31:

Ok but I had supposed that Customs officers ignore all the Fbi, Russia and Mi6 operation. Mea culpa !
