-- Educating the public

Many people on this board have been complaining / bitching / moaning about the lack of decent / good / even great trance / dance tracks that you hear on the radio.

These are my views on the subject:

1) Unfortunately the public out there is not educated on the whole trance / dance music style. They're not exposed to the latest Rank 1 (which is absolutely incredible), or the latest ferry corsten, or Hybrid or often even the Chicane. What they are exposed to is Paul van Dyk (a little), Alice DeeJay, Sonique & Darude (among others). Often the more euro-dancey type efforts.

2) It's all about educating people on trance and dance, however my view is that we have to start at the bottom of the pile, scrape the barrel for those trance / dance tunes that have vocals & a euro-beat feel/sound.

3) Once people are used to that & like it, then other more progressive, true-trancier type sounds emerge. i.e. the tracks that we listen to - the good/great/excellent/incredible tracks that are actually out there.

4) This'll take time, for better or worse, we're stuck with radio-played euro-type-stuff for now. Give it time.

I think trance is definitely the music of the future, what else has all the elements of music. However it's going to take a couple of years before everyone accepts it for what it is.

Your thoughts ?

Arrow

Hmm... I guess we're pretty lucky in the Netherlands...
Some of the comercal radio stations broadcast some "Real" Trance. And sometimes (once each week , but hey it's a start ) they have 2/3 Hours of "Trance-Only" stuff.

Why is everybody so bent on to "educate" everybody else about their own obsession ... if the people want something other than MTV spoon-feeds them, they'll find alternatives. Who cares if they don't know about the latest trance releases, it doesn't really hurt you now, does it? This used to be underground, and it used to be good; now it is being forcefully dragged out, it becomes more diluted and commercialized - we don't want that. Just keep on listening to what you love, and don't seek approval of the public, they don't want trance - if they did they would have found it long time ago ... think about it

peace

If I didn't have to educate public, it would be great.
The problem being, at least here in South Africa, the only way I get to hear trance is to buy CDs or (as I recently discovered last week) download live mix's from sites.
Trance is virtually not played on the radio here.
There is dance played on Saturday & Friday nights, but it is very much of the eurodance type mentioned.

So unfortunately skywarp, it affects me a great deal.

If the general public doesn't like it or ask for it - I ain't gonna be hearing it. I'm being selfish on the issue, because I need other people to listen to it, if I want to hear it.

I don't think anybody has to educate anybody.
Nobody educated me about trance music - i'm
"self-taught" ))
I think that is the case with most of you here.

Virtually every trance track is available through napster
or a web-site like this one.

It's people's own choice to listen to trance.

Thumbs down No, no radio please !

I sincerly hope that the better trance music will never become big on the radio!

I always felt that radio kills a track, they tend to overdo it a 'little' ( like they did with Cynus X overhere in Holland, used to love that track untill it was on the radio every half hour )

If people are interested, they should educate themself!! I mean no one came up to me and said "this is trance, that is underground trance, like it" I'm interested and I find out.. And I wouldn't even call myself educated.. The only education they should get is not being biased about people who listen to this music.. If they are interested tho I think any of us would be glad to help them out with at least what we know =)

latez...
